Hi,
I took the NYPD exam #5067 about 5 years ago. I completed all hiring steps and was sworn in for the 7/20/06 academy. I resigned a month later due to the low pay of $25k/year at that time. I have decided to get back into the academy without taking a new test if possible due to my current age of 36. I noticed today on the NYPD website, NYPD - Application Process (http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/careers/application_faq.shtml) that my exam expired on 6/7/10. But when I called the DCAS automated line to check on the the status of my exam, it says it will expire on 7/31/10, and not 6/710. Why are there 2 different expiration dates for the same exam? Assuming there will be a January 2011 academy. Can I still be processed for this academy if I appear in person at the Candidate Relations Section to have my name reinstated on the list?

Isn't the base pay still about the same? Are you more desperate now or ??
1) You resigned. That means you need to start over. You did not leave during the hiring process.....you were hired. There is no such thing as being reinstated when you were hired and resigned.
2) Because you left with 1 month in, you get nothing.
You have to reapply just like everyone else. In addition, your file, if 4Q'd, will have to go to the Police Commish for approval for hiring becuase you resigned and left without his permission. He can then say yes/no to you, depending on the reason for departure and write-up of academy staff when you left. Don't be suprised if that takes and extra 6 months to be completed.
And times have changed for hiring. No more rapid hiring. There is a LONG waiting list of folks ahead of you. Test now and maybe you will see the academy in about 3-4 classes, aka- 2 years.

You have the test number wrong. Exam number 5046 is extended until 7/31/10. Exam 5067 expired as of 6/7/10. Well...you were right there. Being sworn into the NYPD is a dream for me and many others regardless of the pay. NYPD website says they have an age limit of 35.
