just figured id start planning ahead...whos with me?
There will be no April class nor is one planned. The NYPD stopped doing April classes a long time ago. There are two classes a year: January and July. That is it. Without spending time explaining, it has to do with department resources and the federal funding they get.

That what I thought too Jan/July...but someone i know who currently works NYPD told me, and then I googled NYPD April class and found other people had heard this too...Im just going to cross my fingers maybe its possible who knows?!!?!?
All that chatter is rumor...sames ones that have been flying for years. There is apossibility of pushing the January class to April, but there will not be 3 classes in 2011. They NYPD has asked for federal funding for two classes a year through 2012. The NYPD NEVER, EVER has put a class through without federal funding since 1986, and in these economic times, it won't happen now.
What they want to do is move the January/July class to a April/October class. Has to do with the new academy and teh traffic isuses and scheduling. They were discussing switching, but never adding a third class.

Right..so they keep the two class/year thing goin but just might move Jan to April....If they dont do that then January 11 will be the next ticket I assume.

Didn't they have a small October class a few years ago?

Don't confuse a "backfill" with having a class.

there was sopposed to be one in substitution for the Jan 10 class but I dont think it happened...i could be wrong. In 1990 they had one October class I think.
A lot has changed in 20 years!

What exactly is a backfill class?
A backfill usually occurs 2-4 weeks in....
All the folks who quite the first few weeks are counted up. Then they go out and "backfill" those slots by hiring replacements. The replacements start off a few eeks behind, but are kept seperate and get an accelerated program. Usually the academy is split into trimesters and by the end of the first trimester, they are caught up and integrated with everyone else and finish on time.

There is indeed a April 2011 class instead of a January class as of now. The city council postponed it until April on the June 3rd meeting and it's in the proposed budget plan.
thanks for that insight..
Hi just joined and found all the threads interesting, well heres a little about me. Im a 31 male f rom westchester, NY

Welcome Rude..I heard today that the April class is going to be 700 and they are planning on a July also of a couple hundred. Well see if that rings true. In my opinion you have a good shot, you dont have any holds right? I dont believe its your list number because people do drop out, dont show up, some get DQ'd so its probably not that. I heard about the "oustanding certification" before im not sure what it means though. How many credits do you have by the way
July will be cadets only as of right now....they are planning on a 1000 class in April.....and taking 300 slots for a July class of all cadets making April 700 civilian and a July 300 cadets.

Finally, I get to post somewhere and ask some questions. I have been trying to become a member of the "other" police forum but it is not letting me become a member for some reason. Anyway, I am exam# 8050: Score:97%, list #07x, did my medical back in December of 2009 and I am finally taking my Written Psychological test this Tuesday after having a big fight to get an appointment to schedule the exam.
My question is; it is almost impossible to get in touch with my investigator, and when I do he keeps telling me to call him next month. I have been going through this for the past 8 months with no luck in sight that we will ever meet. Does anyone have any advice to what I should do? I have left numerous messages for him and his supervisor with no response what soever. I keep reading on other message boards that everyone with my exam # is already done with everything. I'm the only schmuck that has nothing done, but yet from what I have read from other people's avatar, I have the highest exam passing % as well as the lowest list #. I am really frustrated and confused as to what to do, if anyone can HELP please do so.
Thanks!
First rule...don't piss of your BI, they can make your file stop processing or get lost, etc.... Second rule, don't piss off the supervisors there. They are not on your side and if they see you are giving one their cops a headache, expect your file to get lost or be placed at the bottom of the pile. SOunds like you have managed to call so much for what they believe is pointless you have been pushed top the "when I get time pile."
What is so important you have to ask? You haven't even passed the psych yet and they are not investing much time into you until you do.

I do not understand how I even pissed them off when I can't even get
in touch with them. I was told after I took my medical in December of
2009 to call my investigator within 10 business days to make an
appointment to meet him. I did that and he told me to call him back in
February. I did that and he told me to call him back the next month. I
did that and finally got in touch with him in June where he said to
call him in July I did that and I am unable to get in touch with him.
His mailbox is full and he never picks up the phone. I am not calling
to be harassing, I am calling to do what is expected of me to do as
per what was said to do after my medical. I didn't even know I had to
take my written psyhologoical test before I had to meet with him. The
only reason I finally got an appointment to take the test on Tuesday
is by fighting with the schedulling unit and telling them my
situation. It seems like everyone else from my exam # is done with
everything and ready for hire except me and I am very frustrated. Is
there a way to change your investigator? Thank you for your response
but if you have any advice as to what I should do I would appreciate
it. Thank you!

Well, I just returned from APD I was advised that the academy may be pushed to April as well. I called my BI and he stated the same. Just saying...Samsonsite is right as of today, lol, who knows what tomorrow will bring.

You don't read well. Be careful taking things out of context and commenting. It will get you in big trouble in the acdemy and on the job. My comment, in context, was that there will not be THREE academys in a single year, meaning a January--April--July. I stated they may PUSH the January class to April, but there will only be TWO classes a year.
new member here. Have been playing the waiting game with everyone else for over 2 years. I am test 8307 taken back in August 2008. Just trying to figure out my chances of being in the next academy or possibly the one after...any help would be appreciated.
