I was flipping through some of the fed jobs posted and found one for Health and Human Services OIG. Just out of curiosity, I was reading why they had a nationwide vacancy. It looks like they are hiring nationwide in connection to the passing of the health care reform act.

I wonder what would happen to the new hires if the law gets repealed. I personally think it's a long shot to get that law repealed but it would suck for these guys to go through all that and then lose their jobs. I guess they would have FLETC behind them which would be the only good news.
Their job will not change with the new law at all. They are involved in much, much more than it appears. They handle issues involving physician fruad, pharmacy fraud, medicare fraud, medicaid fraud. , etc.... Things that are not going anywhere. They work cases with HUGE dollar values (several million plus). Its not a bad job, but you are doing a lot of desk work (70%). There is some door kicking but bot as much as other OIG's.

I agree that would suck for them, on the other hand, I think it would suck for them and everyone else for this friggin' law to stay in effect :banghead:

That would be nice, but there is no indication anyone is doing it. Medicare is full of fraud. My doctor told me that Medicaid (run by the state) periodically verifies charges, Medicare never asks him anything. They just mail him a check.
I remember years ago, we were always reading about doctors, clinics and hospitals being busted for Medicare fraud, now it's rare. The guy running the Scooter Store or whatever it was, was busted a few months back and the paper said that something like 75% of mobile scooters paid for by Medicare was fraudulent. Big surprise after all that advertising.
Who knows how much more is going on? What always ticks me off is the guy in government writing the check has no reason to care if the billing is a fraud. They only time government workers worry about the money they're spending is when they run out.:mad2:
Hiring a few thousand people to work these cases would pay their annual salaries in a couple of months, probably and save the tax payers a fortune.
Oh there out there but these cases (1) typically take years to build and (2) are not given the media attention they deserve.
For example in 2009, these folks:
exclusions of 2,556 folks/facilities from participation in Federal health care programs; (aka- banned from practicing)
1065 criminal prosecutions
515 criminal dispositions
387 civil actions
$3 billion in HHS and $985.7 million in non-HHS investigative receivables, including civil and administrative settlements or civil judgments
Not bad for agency with a few hundred agents who are also doing a protetcion detail for the Secretary.

BIG knows about 5 of these guys, from his last SAC. BIG gave them & the FBI (Who also works Medicare fraud) a little assitance last year, as well as turned them onto the Special AUSA's who could give a couple of their subjects some special attention.
