To the American’s being held in an Iranian prison; were you that naive to think the Iranian Army or the revolutionary guard would ignore several young Americans? You went for a stroll in a high ill advised area of Iraq, Turkey and Iran. Travel advisories are in place for a reason, you asked your mothers why you are still in jail; the answer is clear, your liberal up bringing has taught you little about the policies of these countries. You should not have been there in the first place, whether you went into Iran on purpose to say you were there, or it was truly an accident, you are paying for it now. You’re not in Kansas anymore; when you do get out of that **** whole I bet you will be thankful for your American freedoms. Heck why don’t you spend a few years in the service of this great nation to re-pay the diplomatic headache you have caused.

Perhaps they were expecting the opportunity to get a job, send their kids to school, live in an area with better infra-structure, and have access to free medical care for emergencies?

If people want to travel in some unpredictable crap hole of a country that is their prerogative and I'll never understand it. But no matter where you go stay away from the border! This is similar to the Laura Ling story but she was fortunate to have some political heavyweights backing her. She's lucky because 12 years in a N. Korean labor camp would not have been fun.

I'll admit, when I first read the title of this thread I raised a disapproving eyebrow. But you have made a damn interesting point.

The liberal upbringing of today's society has brainwashed a mass of people who think that as long as we just run around and play "kumbaya" with everyone all will be well.

There are nations out there that hate America just because we are America. I'm sure these kids will be released after Iran is done with it's little "temper tantrum", but the fact remains that they will use any means necessary to degrade and demonize Americans.

Hopefully this is an eye opening experience for these kids - aka they recognize that they really do hate us over there, so let's not go tromping in their backyards trying to prove otherwise.
