or apply to get accepted into officer school if the applicant is already in their late 20s or plans to only serve the minimum amount as active duty. I ask this because my older brother who is 28, is thinking about seeing if he can get into either the AF officer school or the Navy school. However; he is thinking he might be too old, and he only plans to serve the minimum amount active duty and will either return to LE or get in the career field that he was in while in the military. I told him that unless he was going to do a full 20, why bother joining at his age, he should have thought about that when he graduated college. Seems like a late entry

It would be more pointless to plan on doing 20 if joining at that age, IMO. That would make him 48 and he would always be competing with younger officers for promotion.
Beyond that, I'm sure he has his own reasons for wanting to serve.

He's a 28 year old man. At this stage in the game, he can do whatever the heck he wants. I'm a firm believer that EVERYONE should serve their country. I say do it.
