The Post and Courier - 3 plead guilty to roles in slaying - Charleston SC - postandcourier.com (http://www.postandcourier.com/news/2010/mar/06/3-plead-guilty-to-roles-in-slaying/)
Three people who played key roles in the May 2007 slaying of Constable Robert Bailey entered guilty pleas Friday, according to a release from the 9th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
Bailey, 67, was shot and killed by Walter Fayall III, 27, of St. Stephen, during a traffic stop in Lincolnville. He then enlisted friends in an attempt to cover up the crime.
Bailey's car was driven to Summerville and burned, and the constable's belongings were scattered along Interstate 26. His body was buried in Orangeburg County, where authorities discovered it several days later.
On Feb. 9, Fayall pleaded guilty to murder to avoid the death penalty. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
On Feb. 26, Jerome Washington, 28, of Lake City, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact of a felony and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Washington helped Fayall transport and bury Bailey's body in Orangeburg County.
Fayall's girlfriend, Asia Shardae Prioleau, 24, of Hopkins, was in the car with Fayall during the shooting. She pleaded guilty Friday to accessory after the fact of a felony for murder and accessory after the fact of felony for kidnapping, the release said.
She was sentenced to 15 years in prison on those charges. She also pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact of a felony for grand larceny. She was given five years on that charge, to run concurrent with the other sentence.
Brian Smalls, 30, of Pineville, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to a felony, the release said. Smalls took Fayall to Charlotte after the slaying, and he said Fayall had told him during the ride that he shot and killed Bailey.
Smalls was sentenced to five years in prison, to be served concurrently with a previous sentence for a probation violation, with credit for time served.
Asia Arlene O'Neill, 22, of St. Stephen, pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and accessory after the fact to a felony, the release said.
O'Neill lied to investigators by telling them that Prioleau had been with her during the time of the shooting. O'Neill was sentenced to five years, suspended on service of two years, with credit for two years of time served.
