My boyfriend's dream is to be a police officer. He is ex-military and is current working for a security company. The one thing that is holding him back is the DUI he got almost 2 years ago. He has no other marks on her record. He has been told from others that he could pretty much be hired with no problem in Atlanta, GA after I believe 3 years. Anyone have any thoughts?

It's not a permanent dealbreaker, but it definitely will not help him. Time is his friend. He may need to wait (another) few years before he's really competitive again, but he should be able to have a shot at some point.

He might be okay in Atlanta, but not a lot of other places. Portland, Oregon requires 5 years since the conviction before he would be considered. And the applicable word here is "considered", that's a pretty big red flag. People with two anytime in their lives need not even apply.

Hope it works out for him.

Freudian slip?

Oops! Sorry for the typo there. I appreciate the replies. We will in Columbus, OH right now and he is pretty convinced that he may never get a job here. Is it worth contacting someone in Atlanta just to find out his chances?

No one in Atlanta has a crystal ball either. No one will ever be able to give him a reasonable "estimate" of his chances.

Like I said before, time is his friend. There are certainly places where he meets the minimum requirements now, but that may not be enough to get hired. It won't keep him out forever (unless he establishes a pattern) so it's only a temporary problem.
