I am currently in the process for Special Agent. I am trying to get opinions on my chances of getting the job.

I have no previous experience in LE. I have an accounting degree. I have owned and operated a small business for 7 years. I am 36 years old.

Tea 08/09 passed
initial 10/09
Panel 11/09

My understanding is that if I am not appointed by my birthday in September I won't be elligible.

It seems like there are alot of people on here with federal le experience and it would be real helpful if someone could enlighten me on who the SS really hire.

I appreciate the help.

I remember hearing something along the lines of as long as you have your T.O. in hand before the age cutoff, you're golden. Someone else may be able to shed some additional light. Good luck.

In regards to the T.O., I was informed that once you get the T.O. the clock stops as far as age requirement goes.

I have always heard that you have have a DOE (Date of Employment) before your 37 on your OPM SF 50. I have heard of some stories where the person is hired and placed as a glorified secretary at the office until the academy opens up. I have not heard of the T.O. issue but it is the federal govt. and nothing surprises me anymore.

Good thing about the USSS is that they are always hiring. An accounting degree is great for the job. In fact, I would not be surprised if USSS will pay for your CPA exam while employed. Other federal agencies do.

I am not with Secret Service (because I know better :)), but the agency has agents from many different backgrounds. I have worked with agents who were previous cops, teachers, military, accountants, and even one who was a cashier at Target.

Good luck to you.

Once you get to the poly and pass it really process will pick up speed, I would not worry about your Bday.

You better show up in great shape, they are bouncing people who are not in shape. FLETC is not that place to get into shape, here is a good article.

What is the average time period between poly and medical?

Or getting "go" / "no go" letter?

Hi there,

If they really want you then they will speed up the process. I have a couple of friends that work for the SSA and I am even thinking of applying soon. I will be 33 in a couple of months and really need to get the ball rolling myself.
