What a day yesterday. Got off at 3:00 PM yesterday and took the daughter deer hunting. She passed on three does hoping for a buck. After passing up on the does, no other deer came by. Instead a coyote showed up and she laid the smack down on him. She is 16 and has been hunting since age 6. She just calmly took the rifle, aimed, and squeezed the trigger (just like it was business everyday):). Dropped him in his tracks. Maybe this weekend she will get that big buck. Be Safe.

Coyotes are varmints. Varmints keep deer way. We shoot deer for meat. We don't eat store bought meat. I never heard anyone of eating a coyote. I will try cooking the next one we get! I saw a coyote today while in my patrol car. He must have had the mange, as he appeared to have no hair.

Thanks. Like I said, I was courious. We have tons of deer and yotes here. I like to listen to them howl and yap and sing at night.

Took the Sniper Girl deer hunting again yesterday. She passed up a couple of yearlings. Were hoping for bigger deer this evening. Be Safe.

Nice buck. Everything really is bigger in Texas...

First day of rifle season here in PA was yesterday. Unfortunately I couldn't go up to camp due to work (as always).

Great buck. She did well.

My Niece got a nice buck opening day here too. My wife and I still have our anydeer tags to fill, but have filled our antlerless tags. There are more women getting into the sport.

....

See what you are missing?

Full time employment.... (Big Jobs)

Big Country....

Big Animals....

Lots of room to be self-sufficient...

and

Chicks with guns who can shoot. :biggrin5:

My Granddad had a hunting cabin up around Williamsport. He'd go up there to get away from work for a few days, but when he wanted to bring home a mule deer big enough to dress out, he'd drive to Colorado with his bunch of hunting buddies. Back in the 60's he'd go to Canada.

They'd all ship their kill to the local butcher for processing.

People don't realize that Texas has it all. Mountains, lakes, flat land, desert, Ocean, & Forest.

If I were young, unattached and needing a job... any doubt where I'd go?:coolgleamA:

Ever heard of the saying "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink"? Well, Greg is the horse! :yesnod:. Be Safe.

I think pretty much every time they play, Texas does indeed "have" the Pittsburgh Steelers... :smilielol5:

Took the sniper girl HOG hunting this afternoon. She missed her first shot at about 75 yards while the hogs were running. On her second shot at about 150 yards, she killed two hogs with one shot! :) What a time we had! She did not take her new rifle. She said, "Dad, were gonna be doing some walking. I don't want to scratch it up." So we took her Thompson 243.

Can't wait to go back. Pictures to come as soon as I find the right cord :confused5:!

Be Safe.

That's great! I like seeing dad's raising their daughters with some pride and abilities. I keep meeting too many young guys who can't swing a hammer, much less hunt. This way she'll settle for nothing less than a hell of a man.

My little girl is only 4, so she just shoots kisses right now. I plan on making her a strong gun toting girl one day. I can't wait to make future boyfriends look at the trophies before they go out. Then I'll give them the ole, 'You will have to deal with me if you survive her' speech.

Yeah you gotta start them out when they are small. I bought her a pop gun from The Bass Pro Shop in Springfield Missouri in 1994. While watching turkey hunting videos, she would get her pop gun out. Waddle over to a chair with her diaper on and watch the videos with me and shoot at the same time the video did! lol.

When she was four and five, I would take her to put feed in the deer feeder in TX. She called that hunting.

Spend time with them now. They will be grown and gone before you know it.

Got the call yesterday. Sunday morning the Sniper Girl will get to go deer hunting for a management doe or buck! She's excited about shooting the new rifle!

We went hunting this morning. The Sniper Girl was not able to get a shot at anything. We saw five nice bucks, and one fox. She was not able to shoot any of the bucks we saw as she was hunting for a doe or specific management buck. It was a great hunt on a beautiful ranch. Maybe she will get another invite back.

Until next time:

You must be hunting on a deer version of I20!

I haven't been hunting for almost 8 years up in NC. Their version of deer are graceful dogs compared with back home. Can't wait to get back into it and get the boys squared away right. Oldest is 10 and he's ready.

I don't know what a deer version of I20 is, but we were hunting on a ranch east of IH-35!

Yep, it's a time to get that boy in the woods and a learnin!

I was referring to a high deer traffic area. Sounds like a carnival shoot over there! Of course, not taking anything away from the girl's prowess with a rifle. I mentioned this to my boys today, and was asked why there wasn't any deer meat in the store. I said that it was because it was the best, because you have to earn it!
