So....for the last 2 years I've been dealing with some medical problems. I guess a little background is in order: 4-5 years ago I weighed over 430lbs. Yeah yeah yeah I know I know....So I decided to be a cop and lost over 200lbs in a matter of about 4 years or so. Everything was good and I became a cop. All well and dandy.

I'm a cop for a while and slowly but surely I begin to experience some problems with acid reflux. No biggie, go to the doc and they treat it like it's nothing. Eventually, I'm on vaca in ME and I pass out 2x in a restaurant. Spend the end of vaca in the hospital getting tests. All in all, wow this is the brief version, I have every test under the sun and some not and take a couple of trips to the ER from work with a shot of morphine to boot. I used all my vaca time last year to have my gallbladder removed and more than I had this year to have another procedure. I'm still recovering from that one - they took the upper part of my stomach and wrapped it around my esophagus to tighten it up (reflux and regurgitation problems), still can't eat very solid foods.

Anyway, so I got a gym membership yesterday after not being able to work out for over 9 months. I'm !@#$^ weak as hell. I'm pathetic. I think that if there was anyone else in the gym I would have ran away crying in sheer embarrassment of my, lack of, ability. I go from over 430, to a serious routine and fitness nut, getting down to a good low of 211 (a bad low of 209, looked like I just got out of Auschwitz) and keeping strong at 225 (my good weight) to being a weak ***** at 230. Kill me now. To make matters worse, I have to test within a year to keep my cert and the Chief gave me the nod for the SWAT team once I'm healthy again.

I'm going back to the gym for another disappointing day.

I thought you fitness freaks would feel my pain a little.:duma:

Your ok. It is easier and quicker to gain strength you lost than build strength. Be Safe.

Hey Bro - one rep at a time, one set at a time, one day at a time. Keep plugging away! The main thing is that you're getting in there and working out! Don't worry about what you look like or what anybody else thinks - that's immaterial. Just get in there and do it. :)

PS Don't neglect the DT portion of physical prepardness and, not to steal Switch's thunder but, check out and do CrossFit! I usually tailor the exercises to fit me personally...

I need to look into the CrossFit thing. I keep seeing you guys talking about it but don't know where to start with it. I have a lot of trouble running right now so I'm starting to do "complexes" a bit. Interesting stuff. READ ME FOR COMPLEX INFO (http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/screw_cardio_four_complexes_for_a_shredded_physiqu e)

I did Chest and Back on Monday and Bis/Tris yesterday. After Bi/Tri I did half a set of complexes (I was pressed for time) and they're pretty brutal. I have to make a sub in the one that I was doing though cause I can't do Good Mornings - I get back pain no matter what, even with light weight and with a trainer supervising so I know I do em right, just can't do em without the pain.

I'm gonna use the complexes for my cardio days to start, until I can get some wind back up. To top it all off I've been sick for 3 weeks now with this damn flu bug thing going around. When it rains it pours right?

The crossfit thread at the top is too long and my attention span isn't strong enough to pay attention to it - give me the Cliff's Notes version of CrossFit.

Go to crossfit.com; on the left you can look up vids for all the exercises. On the main page they post the WOD (workout of the day); most stuff is abbrevitions which you'll learn over time (if you have questions about them, post 'em...one of the Crossfitters will get back to you :yup:).

The biggest thing to learn is barbell complex (I'm pretty sure Switch will agree with me). deadlift, power clean, front squat, press, push press, push jerk, over head squat, back squat...

What else you wanna know?
