Does anyone have any insider info on whether or not the FAMS will be hiring anytime within the next year?
I sent an email to the TSA Helpdesk address, and the response was more or less useless, just a redirect to USAJobs.
I'm trying to get the process started before I EAS next summer.
Thanks

get out of the service.
Not a Marine. We say "get out the Corps" or other colorful things that mean the same thing.

Whats going on bro?
I noticed here you are a Marine not just any Marine but a grunt like my self so I just wanted to give you a heads up man. I actually applied to the FAM's in January I went through the hiring process untill I hit the panel interview and I was basically told that I didnt move forward because I didnt have a degree. I was a squad leader in the Corps and also an NCO, 2 pumps. I am not saying you wont make it through but if you dont have a degree it's hard for them to justify you making that much money. I am just letting you know man its real competitive out here in the civilian world especially for the FAM's, I dont want to discourage you or anything go after it either way! If you want some more information on the FAMS there are plenty of websites out there to check out as well. Take care motivator!

That sucks, dude, for you and me. I appreciate the heads up, I'm in about the same situation. I still have a year, so I'll apply if a vacany opens up in the next few months, but I won't shred my reenlistment packet yet. What was the length of time between submitting your application and the panel interview?

It took about 5-6 months and then from there everything goes by pretty fast. I was thinkning about re-enlisting as well but I wanted to accomplish different goals, plus the higher you move up in rank the less you actually do your job in the Corps and it equates to more admin bull zhit.
One thing I didnt realize is how long the hiring process takes for federal jobs so about 4-6 months before you get out of the Corps start applying for Federal Law Enforcement positions and do alot of research there is so many Law Enforcement Positions man, alot of times there is luck involved with getting hired by the government. So just apply like crazy. Another misconception I had as well is, working for the government and still living in your hometown, unless you get a city/county/state Law Enforcement Job you are not going to get your choice of geographic location. My best advice to you is just do a tremendous amount of research, try and go to school while you are still in the Corps even if its just 1 or 2 classes, and apply to any and all positions the worst that could happen is you dont take the job offer.

Average with the 3 letter agencie is much longer! I would say a year out you shoudl be applying and eventhen, plan on working a civilian job for a frew more months when out. And don't put all your eggs in one basket.
