Hello All
I was given a conditional job offer from the TX DPS on Friday!!! I will be headed to Austin for the final round of testing on September 7th. I'm VERY excited about this and was wondering if anyone had any advice for me about what to expect when the academy starts?
Thanks in advance,

Lots of FUN !!!!!!!! The Academy will bring you breakfast in bed after you sleep in late !!!!!!!! You can take a nap after lunch !!!!!!!! You will not be required to make your bed !!!!!!!!! And PT is optional !!!!!!!!!
Really, the best advice would be to just roll with the punches when you get there. Be Safe.
See you down there. I am trying out on the 7 also. Best of luck to you!

Well your fortunate enough that they have not moved the academy to Florence yet. Austin has many restaurants that deliver. Call any of them and they usually deliver for free at the academy!!!!!!!!
Yes IHop everyday. When you get tired of IHop, you can try the several donut shops they have in town:).
Seriously. If you don't like what they are serving in the cafeteria, the salad bar is usually pretty good. Breakfast was usually the best meal. Be Safe.

Thanks for the info, I'll make sure I get plenty full at breakfast then. I suppose I will loose some weight from the food being served.

I got the phone call today!! I was "approved" to attend the September academy! I can't wait to get started. Got my boots already, I should get the letter telling me what else I need to bring on Monday, but I could really use this weekend to get whatever i need since I have to be in Austin next weekend. Can anybody tell me what else I'm going to need to bring with me?
Thanks in advance,

Congradulations!
You will get 2 pairs of compression shorts, I think 3 pairs of PT shorts, 4 pt shirts and 4 DPS shirts to wear with your Khaki's for classroom uniform.
When you show up, wear your dickies, wear a nice shirt, have your hair cut as short as you can get it. Be prepared, it will be challenging but remember it is a state of mind. :-)

We should show up next Sunday wearing out Dickies and our Trooper Boots?
It was stated to be there before 4pm, should we get there earlier?
Thanks for the info.
God Bless.

Yes, arrive wearing your dickies and trooper boots and some kind of tucked in collared shirt. Look sharp, you will be amazed at what some people arrive in. I will tell you stories later...
I would arrive a little early (not too early though).
Good luck. (And be sure to write your name on everything!).
Thanks for the heads up. I was gonna dress sharp, but in slacks. Dickies will work too. 1 less thing i have to take.
Can we bring our clothes on hangers, or should we pack everything in a suit case? Are we allwed to bring an extra pillow or anything like that?
Apprciate the info!
Less than a week!
God Bless!

Hope you are not former military, playing ignorant for a few weeks will get old quick. It was an experience for me to sit back and hold my tongue a lot, but eventually I made the transition, and here I am.
Don't listen to nothing Safety Steve says, he's a jerk, I spent 6 months(my academy classmate) finding this out :D
How you doing Steve?

Word out of Austin and around the state is that will not be very mucher longer. Friend who was in, In-Service said the Director and the assistant Director have said every Trooper will have his own car by December.

Does anyone know the timeframe from BI to oral board? Have not heard anything for 3 weeks now. If you fail anything will DPS at least have the decency to call you and tell you so you won't be wondering around?
Thanks!
