Sorry guys, but I am going crazy here...

They're: They are...

Their: Belonging to them...

There: As opposed to here...

Example:

They're getting their gruel over there...

I've been going through these threads to see what others in the CO process are going through. Given that many are asking about the testing, I thought that my adding this might help for any grammar portion that might be part of it.

No, I'm not usually a snob. I just play one on forums! ;):D

Oh trust me, I have been accused of being a grammar-nazi on more than a few occasions. My personal favorite is when someone comes on here, typing like they are sending a text. If they can't make the differentiation, they can find another forum. :)

My pet peeve is the fictitious word "irregardless". People - THIS IS NOT A REAL WORD!!!!!!!! I hear even professionals and bosses say it.

Also "than" vs "then".

"Than" is comparative, as in "CoC is smarter than people who say 'irregardless'"

"Then" is used to sperate events by chronology, as in "First CoC hears someone say 'irregardless', then he goes and smacks them in the mouth"

Carry on....

Improper word usage makes it very difficult to read a post. It is also difficult to read a post when there is no proper capitalization, sentence structure or breaks in the post for paragraphs when the topic changes.

When I see a post that does not follow basic grammar rules, I ignore it entirely, wont even read it! LOL

@ Adamantine

+1

BTW, neither your custom user title follows proper capitalization and punctuation, nor "outta" in your location is a real word, I think. :D

Feel free to blame me for my English, it isn't my first language, by the way. :)

Yarp.

What is the deal with regardless/irregardless? If one uses irregardless, does it nullify regard?

Kinda like "Ain't no..."?

"I ain't no fool!"... Heh heh heh... ;)

"There ain't no nothing..." Soooooo... there really isn't anything? :p

Also, what is the deal with the pronunciation of "harassment"?

It is the act of "harass-ing" or is it the act of "harris-ing"?

jU5T 42 TH3r3'2 N0TH1N' wR0N9 w1T tyP1n' 1N l33T!

Oh and its "You're welcome" not "Your welcome"
"You're" is a contraction for you are, therefore the saying is "you are welcome".
"Your" is a possessive pronoun and shows somebody owns something, like "This is your car"

The examples in this thread make my brain hurt.

Much like reading the questions in the "Ask a Cop" section.

On the bright side, this forum is far more intelligent than many others
I have been to.

That's what I don't understand...

To harass someone is to be really freaking annoying, but to "harris" someone? That sounds kinky... :p

I am not even gonna lie...

I never understood the "who" and "whom" clauses of the English language. English was one of my favorite classes and I scored quiet well in the subject, but I just couldn't understand it....

As in: "Whom does this belong to?" or something like that...:o

Try having to translate and proccess a letter from an arguably
illiterate Hispanic inmate.

When you have to read it out loud to try to figure out what they are
trying to say, that, my friends, is terrible.

The only other worst thing is working on letters from DC Thugs.

Brings back memories of my girls in Kg and 1st grade... They had to write sentences and if they didn't know how to spell the word, write it phonetically.

Christmas lists were interesting... Reading them out loud was the only way to decipher what the hell the coveted thing was...

Now, a combo Spanish/bad English letter?!?

Seriously. My son is easier to understand than these guys. And he talks around a binkie most of the time.

And my daughter is lightyears ahead of most of these crooks, when it comes to writing.

I know what you mean, there! ;)

When I worked in the auto industry doing wholesale parts, some of the shops that called in had people who sounded like Boomhauer (sp?) from King of the Hill, only worse. I live in Va and should be pretty used to it, I can only imagine being in Pa having southern drawl tainted thug speak.

My girls have pretty advanced vocabularies. When they were little we would spell things that we didn't want them to understand, kind of like "I was thinking about g-o-i-n-g to b-r-e-w-s-t-e-r-s and then to the p-a-r-k."

But, they started to learn to spell so we had to change up our tactics "I was thinking about utilizing the vehicular device to obtain some bovine derived frozen product and then meandering over to the publicly owned pleasant space for amuck activities." :D

Yeah, i remember when my daughter learned to spell. I had to switch to Spanish. Damn you Dora for taking that from me too.

Yeah, Thugs and the English Language don't always see eye to eye. It's bad. though, when all of our assorted Immigrants (we are an INS site) are easier to understand than a dude from America.

So... I gotta ask some questions of you given that you are in corrections.

I know you are in the federal arena, and I have applied with a state facility, but I would like to know what your opinion is about being in corrections.

The facility I am in the running for is a level 2 facility for women.
