My boyfriend bought me a car in Dec. 08. I paid over $5,000.00 on it and he paid the other $8,000.00. I asked that the title be in both names since he was helping me I felt that was the proper thing to do.
Several months later we broke up and came to a conculsion with the car. So he met myself and a friend of mine at the DMV Office. He signed the title over to me and my friend, gave me the keys and on I went. The reason for putting 2 names on the car was because in January my boyfriend forged my name on the original title, but he signed the back of the title with my maiden name so he had problems getting a title.
About 3 weeks later after I didn't answer his phone calls, he went to the Sheriffs office and swore out a warrant for Grand Theft Auto on me. I had no idea I am living in Alabama. In April I was arrested for "Grand Theft Auto" Theft of a vehicle. **(When I got out of jail and checked my phone messages my ex said "April Fools Day _itch) ** I showed the police my title and all my paper work. But they did not care. A Bail Bondsman friend (in Florida) called to see if it was listed he told me the car was not listed in NCIC. I told the officer this but he said to SHUT UP. My car was towed I was arrested and transported down to Florida and Bond was set at $60,000.00. I told them I wanted a jury trial anyway I WANT MY CAR. the case will either be dismissed or dropped. Lot's of politics. If my car was not listed in NCIC did they tow it legally? Why should I have to pay the $2,500.00 to get my car out>? I'm on disability and between the bond and all the other mess my ex has created I"M FLAT BROKE. Can someone help me PLEASE!
