I have a knife that I would like to keep on me for practical purposes. I am not sure if it is legal because the VA weapon laws are kind of vague. it is a Schrade OTF Spring Assisted Blade. You manually slide it about 20-30% and the spring takes it the rest of the way. Would this be considered a "spring stick" or "switchblade"?

Not a switchblade, but rather a ballistic knife.
N. As used in this article:
"Ballistic knife" means any knife with a detachable blade that is propelled by a spring-operated mechanism.
