it seems as though a lot of police officers are former military and im curious to know if it is also common for current officers to be in the reserves/guard and how much does it conflict with the departments scheduling as well as other duties. Would an officer be encouraged or discouraged from entering the reserves or guards after being hired, due to the fact that they are going to be gone like 2-3 months for basic and that doesnt include AIT. I would think the officer could lose his job but i could be wrong

You are wrong, as federal law prevents it.
Just once post something, anything, that isn't a question.
I'm now retired from the military but served for about 10 years when I was also a police officer. We have a Sgt who is on her fourth deployment. Other officers have been in the reserves in the past.

We have a lot of guys who are in the guard or reserves.
The chief of a small town near me was deployed and came back to find his job had been changed to the point he was chief in name only. He sued and won right away. They can't do that.
