Hello all,

My name is Chris and I am an Explorer for the Albuquerque Police Department. For about 2 years now I have been thinking about moving to NYC and working for the NYPD. My questions are:

Is it worth it?
Is it decently ok to figure out how to get around?

My family is APD and one LAPD but I've been dreamin about being one of the best. Help is greatly appreciated :D

It wont hurt to take the test and consider it an option.

How would I go about taking the test?

Hey Chris,

Just goto this website and fill it out under Apply Now
nypdrecruit.com

I believe they have a computerized testing center in downtown Manhattan.

Good luck,
Rob

They offer a condensed testing (QUEST program) for out-of-state applicants. Wouldn't be a bad idea.

Yes, from what I hear the QUEST is about 6-7 days, and condenses all the BI interviews, Medical, and investigative stuff all in one week. They do a lot for out of state applicants.

Chris,

Before you spend time, money and energey in applying, you should take a vacation here. See if you like the City. And I don't mean Times Sqaure! Venture to other boroughs and see the places you may end up working in. Many come to NY C and love Times Square. Times Square is not 125 Street at 10 pm where the two places are worlds apart.

If you've already got 2 years on as an Explorer, have you considered applying for a PO position there? Just figured I'd ask because if your an Explorer here, chances are you know some of the laws, definitions/elements to crimes, radio codes, areas, etc...

In other words, as an Explorer with some time on, you'd have a decent head start come Academy time...

You also have a member in the Department you're an explorer in. You could probably get your Explorer Supervisor to write you a letter of recommendation and have your family member vouch for you.
