Hi -
I am a 6 year officer that left Law Enforcement to take a better paying desk job. I miss patrol but cant change careers at this point. I was considering becoming an Auxiliary or Reserve officer in Northern Virginia...

Which departments have decent Auxiliary programs? Do any of them support programs that allow volunteer officers to make arrests or to carry handguns?

Seems like most do not allow reservists to carry guns. I can understand the liability factor and nobody wants trigger happy squirrels ...but isnt that a training/officer safety issue?

Bottom line - I am really hesitant to wear a uniform or ride in a marked car, w/o a way to protect myself.

Its odd that with a concealed weapons permit - I can walk around armed but an auxiliary officer only has the radio for self defense.
