I know there was a thread on the LCP some time back... and I don't know if the little gun has been mentioned since, but -

I bought one, serial number 371-XXXX, which is post recall.

I have had it for approximately one month. I have only put 100 rounds through it.

Just for information, the magazine release has broken. It's apparently a problem with the LCP when a magazine grip extension is installed. My "pinky" grip came installed on my magazine from the factory.

My magazine will seat properly and allow for a round to be chambered. However, almost ever single shot results in the magazine being dropped. In order to continue to fire I must instantly re-seat the magazine and pull the slide, chambering the next round.

As of late, the magazine will also release itself while holstered. I'll be walking around and when I remove the gun/holster from within my waistband, I find the magazine to be ~.5 inches released.

The original magazine release is polymer/plastic and, due to the stress and pressure caused by the shooters grip, chip away with each shot. I am being told Ruger is accepting the LCPs back and installing a metal magazine release. However, I have also heard Ruger is installing a polymer release with a metal pin which "reduces stress". I hope the former is the solution...

One some random website, I read Ruger is running short of magazine release replacements, so turn around time is slowly increasing.

This is just an update, in case anyone was thinking of picking one of these up. Before the problem, I was quite happy with this gun. It's really nice not having to "dress for the gun".

Also, just a side note - the problem presented itself as I was qualifying for my department. Our qualification course isn't something you can really pause and walk away from (although, I wouldn't call it dynamic and or difficult either!) I had to essentially qualify by re-seating the magazine and re-chambering a round each trigger pull. One range master for my department watched me do this and asked who made the gun. When I told him, he said he would have "expected better".

P.S. - I picked up an awesome holster from K&D Holsters. It took about 8 weeks to receive, but it's perfect. The cost was approximately 65 dollars with shipping and handling. I highly recommend them!

rule number one of gun buying
(same applies for car buying)

Never buy a gun the first year it comes out.
They always have issues.

If and when Ruger gets this product right,
they are going to have a money maker.
Just give it time.

Prime reason why you will never find a Ruger anything on our approved list.
