I FINALLY convinced my mom to take me to pick up the Explorer application today, which is probably good because the next academy is in February. And I look a little young for my age (i'm a little short) so when I walked in, and asked for an application, the desk officer said, "um....how old are you?" and he was surprised but he gave me the application and said, "Best of luck to you." So, ya, i thought that was kind of cool :D . Also, on the application, it says, "Also submit an autobiography about yourself." I thought that was a little redundant . otherwise, I'm finally on my first steps toward the Explorers.

Congrats on your move towards a career in Law Enforcement! Believe me, you WONT be disappointed :) LE Exploring has taught me more than Civil Air Patrol, toastmasters and JROTC combined.. Hope you're physically fit enough though, PT in our academy was harder that Marine Corps JROTC..
Good job and good luck in the explorer academy.

Congrats,
I do have a question for all of you though. What is the accademy you keep talking about. We have never had one here and I was just wondering what it was like and how it worked. Mostly we just filled out our applications and went to the meetings. I don't know how it used to be when my sister was in it, but that is how it is now.
Thanks,;)

Welcome aboard, Glad to have you as one of the Explorers. I hope it is everything you dreamed it would be and even more. Hopefully you will gain lots of knowledge and experience that will take you far in life.
You may be small now but one day you will grow, just be patient, and if not think of the areas you can get into that others cannot.
Listen and Learn!

Congratulations! I remember that feeling, picking up that police application 6 months ago. Now I am proud to be apart of one of the best police departments in the country.
Anyway, good luck to you during the academy, and to quote a band, "You're gonna go far kid."

In California, the explorers go through a paramilitary boot camp type academy. It is supposed to be somewhat similar to what real police recruits go through to become peace officers. The training usually includes, physical activities (Fun) defensive tactics, search and seizures, police radio tactics, as well as patrol tactics. The academy is usually on weekends for about 18-20 Saturdays.
