Well, I'm new to this forum and was reading all the topics because I'm interested in Law Enforcement. I had a question about one post.
I was reading that I think it was Anchorage, Alaska first year officers average about $74,000, making $26.49 and hour? I also did some research on their website and it has that same info.
Is it just me or does this seem very high for a first year officer? Hope some of you could help answer my question. I wasn't sure if these numbers were to high to be true.

I see that you don't know a damn thing about the cost of living in AK. :D

Really? the Cost of Living is that high there? I knew it was going to be a bit higher. I figured at best a 1st year guy is making $50,000. Now I'm certainly new to the salaries of a Police Officer so I dont know how close to reality that is.
thank you for the welcome :D. This is a good and interesting forum.

Everything in AK has to be shipped in. This makes getting the basics, like groceries, VERY expensive.

Not quite true, Norm. There is some farming in the Mat-Su valley (and not just marijuana, but actual food).
APD pays better than any LE in the state. I've even considered switching. But check out house prices in Anchorage before you get to excited.
I wouldn't say food is that much more. But maybe I'm used to it.
We do have the highest gas prices in the country.
