Im 21 years old right now and in the next year or so im going to start applying to places after i finish some more college. A really big one im thinking about is in Alaska maybe around Juneau or Fairbanks (I'm still researching cities) I live in Michigan right now so I'm trying to not get to much colder of an area :) But i love the wilderness in Alaska and i hear there are alot of police jobs out in there also.

Anyone have any advice on the area or been an officer there?

How much college have you had? Do they teach punctuation and capitalization or are you just lazy?

Out of curiosity, why aren't you considering Anchorage?

Sorry there bud, I'm in between things atm and didn't think it was very pertinent on public forum to have perfect grammar.

Anchorage is something im thinking, though i want to look more into it as i really don't like big cities very much. But i have heard also that it has more of a small town feel to it so once again i will have to research that one more.

No problem, "bud".

Some think grammar's important all the time. Maybe you should wait to post until there is a time when you can give it the attention that it deserves. Or is your time that much more valuable than anyone else's (assuming you want more than a half-assed answer that matches your half-assed question).

Alright, now your just being rude. Please stop trolling my thread This question really doesn't have much depth so i really have no clue how i can mess up asking it very much. Some also think that politeness is important all the time.

I even went up and corrected things on my first post, and now i ask you politely to stop spamming my thread.

First, I will not pretend to be sorry that you are all butt-hurt because someone pointed out that the world does not revolve around you and that you should not ask anyone to put effort forward in answering a question that you find unworthy of effort to ask in anything more than a 3rd grader's ability.

Next, it is hardly trolling when a MODERATOR points out the fact that it was asked in poor form.

Finally, I DID address your question, referencing Anchorage. Of course, that was assuming that you had any foundation of knowledge to know about the weather in Anchorage, etc.

Finally, tread carefully, I don't take kindly to some new-jack, wannabe coming on here and speaking with an authority that they do not have.

Ok i have been really nothing but nice here, im not sure what to say. I Asked about if anyone had any opinion on any places in Alaska or had worked there before, and explained a little bit about myself.

I get where your at, i have been there. I run 2 forums totaling over 2 times larger than this forum and i am responsible for about 60 moderators. I get your trying to get at the grammar thing but it is certainly not something to hassle me about (grammar is not in the rules but respect for other members of the forum is). This is something i would consider trolling even if your a moderator. 3rd grader comments and all of that are not needed.

I mean i really don't get what i can do here.

to summarize my question up "whats your opinion on police employment in Alaska"

Should I be impressed? Quite the contrary.

If you actually knew where I am at, then this would not all be so elusive to you. My point being (and I will try to put it in small words, as you continue to be completely mystified):
You come on here demonstrating that your time is so valuable that you do not find us worthy of the effort to write as an adult. Yet, at the same time, you expect people to put an effort into responses. Does this make sense? While not a TOS violation, it is poor etiquette. Of course, you would know this, running 2 forums and all.

Furthermore, what would I know about the importance of being in the habit of using proper communication skills. It's not like I am actually in LE... errr, wait a minute, I think I AM in LE.

Finally, I call BS on your petty little poor excuse for a lie.

...Sorry there bud, I'm in between things atm and didn't think it was very pertinent on public forum to have perfect grammar...
You must have a lot of ATMs (or find that to be the only time you can post on here). I figure, it has to be that or we can revert back to my initial opinion of you. You have a repeated history of posts just like the one I referenced above. It is hardly an anomaly.

ok im getting a resume up on monster.com, and applying to a few places, but im totally stuck on what i should put on the resume title, because i want employers in my work area to see that right? like Well i don't have any law enforcement work experience, I mean i worked in customer service all my life, like what kind of title should i use for a resume to actually tell people im looking for law enforcement work?
thanks

haha k thanks :) i should probly keep that in mind. thanks for the quick responses, take care

ok so i went in for my border patrol exam today, everything was going great, i was very confident, when i got it back i got a note saying i didnt score high enough on the test, my test score was 86! i mean its not amazing, but darnet thats not to bad.

so well i got home, i decided to email the adress on the sheet and ask what the passing score was, and they told me 70! so what the heck, so i emailed them back my situation and they havn't responded yet, i have a myriad of phone numbers which at this time their all just automated and answering machines.

my question is, do you think its possible that i could get reconsider that this is a mistake or am i most likely well boned?

im going to try my list of numbers tommorow wish me luck

thats what i was kind of thinking, at the start of the test the officer didnt really make it seem like that, and when i emailed them they sounded like it was just you get 70 and you pass.

i kind of kick myself for not asking before we got them back.

ya, dunno, their doing big hiring right now, which is the only reason i might think otherwise, i guess i will just have to get a hold of them and cross my fingers.

well first to answer your question, testing i have to wait 90 days.

BUT i contacted like 5 numbers today, and everyone either told me they didnt have access at all, or won't until most likely tommorow, so i have to wait. BUT every person i talked to said, at the time being they are accepting any person who scores over 70, and theres no reason why i shouldn't have got it if my score is indeed correct.

so that made me a bit hopeful.

thats exactly what im thinking, they probly had the tests, and like a pile of failure letters and a pile of pass letters, and hopefully they just grabbed mine and grabbed the wrong letter, there were probly like 40 people testing with me.

ya they were official, i actually just got the email today that they did make a mistake and i passed fine!

just waiting for the rest of what im going to have to do to get caught up now.

In LE, we call that an MO. It seems to be much more than a coincidence at the ATM. Believe it or not, grammar IS important. People DO form opinions based on it, on here AND the real world. For example, right now I think you are lazy and pretentious. I could be wrong... but at least I can write like an adult and know where the shift key is (FYI, there are TWO on your keyboard). While not the best writer, it seems to have served me well enough so far.

I really have no clue what you want here. I said i was sorry before, I didn't use the best grammar i admit. But you are also the first person to complain about it. I had a great experience with everyone and then wit this little snap everything went to hell. You would think i threatened someones life here.

As it is very obvious we have 2 very different opinions of this matter. I have been nothing but respectful and mature about it and you keep making childish remarks. You think that grammar means everything in this subject and i can agree grammar is a nice thing to have but i also think you could have said it in a much more polite and mature manner.

I really think you are going to hardheaded in this matter and seeing it as only black and white and that you are correct.

And you keep going with this expectation that i apparently have, I don't expect to get a load of professional well researched answers here, it's not like i am paying to use this site. I posted just seeing what might come up from it just getting a few more opinions which you seem hell bent on ruining.

Please if you would then inform me how you would have written my first post if you seem to think it is so wrong. I have admitted that i had bad grammar, and apologized I see no reason why you should be yelling still.

Perhaps on all of the vast forums you supervise it isn't. And thats fine. This is a LE forum and we must be able to properly communcate which means more than the spoken language. If one cannot master and use simple yet proper language skills in daily communication , then they have already shown part of their character and attributes ( or lack therof).

This is OUR house and every one with the VERIFIED LEO tag next to his/her name already has the job that you seek. If you find it hard to properly communicate on an internet forum ,than you will have a tough time in the world of LE.

People like me ( supervisors) read and review reports. If I don't like what I see , I kick it back to be corrected. This includes spelling, grammar and just basic sentence structure.

Now that you are fully aware of what to expect in the world of LE , perhaps you can start practicing your language skills.

I didn't want an apology. Furthermore, I am hardly seeking your approval. The above post is enough to satisfy me (assuming you will write like this in subsequent posts).

(... and yes, I am hard-headed. Were you a junior high-school kid, we would be more tolerant. However, you are not. You are an adult, aspiring to get into LE and and you will be expected to behave as an adult, rather than like some pre-adolescent who is text messaging his buddies.)

Living in Alaska is like living in a different country. A quite different way of life due to the climate extremes and all of the logisitics involved in living/working there. I think your attraction to AK is more romantic than practical.

Why dont you go and spend a week there sometime and see what it is really like ?

When the letter " i " is used by itself in a sentence , it is always in caps. Like I have been to Alaska already.

I found an online translatoer that may help us with your communication problem.
http://www.lingo2word.com/translate.php
Perhaps it will bridge the gap and we can all be friends. I would start saving up for a PDA so that you can have it mobile, if you plan on being in LE with your current communication skills.

I entered this:

If you actually knew where I am at, then this would not all be so elusive to you. My point being (and I will try to put it in small words, as you continue to be completely mystified):
[B]You come on here demonstrating that your time is so valuable that you do not find us worthy of the effort to write as an adult. Yet, at the same time, you expect people to put an effort into responses.

You're obviously seeking something because you keep posting. What is it that you want then? Well, Steve, I think you are a bit new around here for worrying about attitudes. You haven't even taken the time to introduce yourself.

Stop posting officers' telephone numbers on here. If you really are an officer, get verified as such. We will permit posting recruiters' numbers, as we can trust the veracity of the claims of them being official numbers for recruiters.

Also, should you keep posting the exact same thing in multiple threads, you will be banned... no matter how much of a service you think you are performing.

No worries about the phone number it is mine. You might prove me wrong, but I don't think I posted the same thing in multiple threads, just giving him a little bit of info. As far as the attitudes, I call them like I see them. Ban me if you want, however, if you continue to treat your forum users this way, you might not have much of a forum in the future when they all leave or get banned. Now, do think we can all sit down and treat each other like adults for a little while, if not, find me on officer.com or policelink.com

Act like an adult, Steve... that means play by adult rules. We do not permit people to come on here (with being verified), claiming to be an LEO. We do not permit an unverified member to post telephone numbers (or personal contact info) of officers, without being verified. Verification would permit us to give your word a little more weight in such matter.

For all we know, Steve, you could be a disgruntled 15 year old who got in trouble for MIB, holding a grudge against the real officer whose name and number you posted. And, Steve, for all we know, that is the officer's home number.

So, Steve, being a real officer, you should be able to understand (and appreciate) the reason for such rules.

Also, you have had 7 posts. Almost half of which have posted the same information. A single post is good enough. You need not post the same thing in multiple places. If you forgot something, the edit button is real handy... you can even post a follow-on post in the same thread.

So, get verified, play by the rules, or hit the road.

I am trying to play by the rules, I just sent a request to a moderator (hopefully one that is a bit nicer!).

As to the adult comment, like I tell people on the street, I will treat you like you treat me. So maybe you should start off by climbing down from your high horse moderator status and talk to people like people. I bet you get into a lot of arguments at work too. Maybe reread the posts, they are for different locations and times of the year, so the information is different.

Sorry if I only have 7 posts as I don't live my life on your forum. That is one of the bad things about living in Alaska, I get to spend too much time enjoying the great outdoors. In fact, time for me to go play in the snow!!

This will be my last response to you Switchback unless you have real questions or want to talk about something else besides attitudes.

Sorry to take it out on you, but it get's frustrating reading topics that get turned from the original intent to bashing someone's spelling abilities. Yes I have a college degree, no spelling and grammar are not my specialties. However if you want to talk about fishing for halibut or floating the Kenai river, let's bash away on good times, don't sweat the small things!!
