A University City Police officer was shot just steps from a Starbucks Coffee in the Delmar Loop Friday night. It happened on Leland Avenue just steps from Delmar.
Police would not comment on the officer’s condition, but do confirm he was shot about 10:20 p.m. Witnesses on the scene report hearing as many as six gunshots fired. Home video shot with a cell phone shows first responders performing CPR on the inured officer on the sidewalk.
Residents of the area say the spot where the officer was shot is a location where police will often park and do paperwork while keeping an eye on weekend crowds in the loop. One witness reports seeing someone approach the officer, sitting in his parked car, and opening fire.
At last report there no suspects were in custody. Officers from Clayton and St.Louis City were on the scene assisting as of 11:30 p.m. Police were reportedly looking for a 4 door, gray 1993 Oldsmobile.
