View Full Version : Heel Pain!!

Well, looks like I might be down for a couple days (hopefully not WEEKS!). I've got some pretty severe heel pain, also known as plantar fasciitis, which is keeping me awake even as I type this out at 4:20 AM when I should be sleeping... Can't sleep though, 'cause I've got too much damn pain in my heel and ankle!! (Got ice on it right now, and that's helping some...)

Going to have to call my Sgt. first thing and let her know that I can't make it in. What good would it do if I can't even walk? Don't even know if I'll be able to get a boot on my foot!

From what I can tell, and what I've been told (hit the ER last night), it's pretty much an inflammation of this fibrous tissue on the bottom of the foot. That tissue is what gives your foot the ability to absorb shock 'cause it's attached from the heel to the bottom of the toes and should be tight like a bowstring. Unfortunately, it seems mine has been ripping the last couple days and has now become quite debilitating, as I can barely hobble around my house. And, as mentioned above, I can't even get any sleep...

Oh well, I guess I'll stop my little rant now. Just wanted to share some of my severe pain in the foot with y'all! Any good thoughts for healing (not HEELING!) you want to send my way would be greatly appreciated.

Sucks to be you.:D That hurts. I've been nursing mine back to health and it doesn't seem to be getting any better, but I'm not in as bad a shape as you, so I think I keep re-injuring it. I found sitting at the computer rolling a frozen water bottle under my arch works well for icing the bottom. Did the ER give you any braces or anything? If you go to coolrunning . com they show how to tape it up real well that is supposed to help with supporting it and helping it heal up faster. Mine isn't bad enough for me to want to do that so I don't (probably to my detriment). Good luck and I know it hurts, especially when first getting out of bed.

The pain is excruciating.....I know it for a fact. I've been suffering with it for a little over a year now. When all attempts to cure the pain failed for me....I finally had to seek professional help. I had developed heel spurs on both heels and was given a series of shots in both heels....painful as hell. But eventually the pain eased. The problem hasn't been totally remedied though...even though I was told to wear only shoes with tall heels....like western boots. I like 'em...but they're not the most comfortable things to wear...especially in hot weather.

And, I also have bouts of recurring pain for which I take pain relievers twice a day. I guess I'll be plagued with this for the rest of my life.
:(

Good luck guys.

I had never heard of this ailment, and I got hit with it while running about six weeks ago. The biggest mistake I made was to just think I could run through it, and making it worse (because, for some reason, it doesn't hurt when I run, only when I walk).

I now am at the same point. I look like a cripple when I get out of bed in the morning. And at night, it takes a while for it to quit hurting.

Two things that have been working for me.
1. Stretching it gently (raising my foot up) several times to warm up, and
2. Taking ibuprofen to the maximum dosage. While I was taking it for a few days, it got a lot better, (almost gone really). Then I went camping this weekend with my boy, forgot the Advil, and it was back again.

I'm getting back on the Advil, so I will report the results in a couple of days. :D
