They are trained to look for what every other officer would look for, illegal activity/prohibited items.
They might put more emphasis on the national origin of any individuals in the vehicle, but it's not they will ignore any and everything else happening in the vehicle.

The stop is made to check for people or contraband that has crossed the border illegally. If they have you lawfully stopped for that purpose and find some other violation of law, it's fair game.

I don't think I worded it right. I have often found that when Im going through border patrol, they would just wave all the cars on through, without stopping. What I was wondering is what is it that they look for to determine which vehicals to flag over?

Sorry, will not discuss that on a public forum. Suffice to say they're looking for illegal activity. BIG won't tell you how to or how not to be suspicious, while passing through a check point.
