To all LEO's on this forum -particularly ones of which who's jusrisdictions to which I am applying;
I would appreciate honest answers while at the same time not being judged.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

As a resident of New York State/City how would I go about conducting a criminal background check on myself?

In regards to traffic violations, what if I do not recall anything prior to what the driver's abstract displays (i think it only covers the past 3 - 5 years correct?)?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am planning on testing for NYPD, Westchester PD and Mount Vernon PD this year. (White Plains and Yonkers PD next year)

Here are my issues:

I don't recall whether some situations were crimes or just violations of some sort.

-Drinking open container in public (once about 8 years ago)

-Going through NYC Subway turnstyle with my girlfriend at the time (I didn't "jump" it but I squeezed through with her - maybe 10 years ago)

-Arrested for ___ (I don't recall the charge) but reduced to disorderly conduct ( maybe 10 years ago)

-Arrested for driving at .1 BAC... *sigh* no accident no injuries involved.
Reduced to DWAI since it was a first time offense and no criminal history.

I don't feel I am a criminal by any means, but I honestly learned from my "mistakes" and never repeated any of them, and have no intention on doing so.
I am just worried that these mistakes will hinder me from pursing a career in LE.

Well...you dont get to set the level or tone of repsonse when you come here. :) While I am not a police officer in NY , I am a longtime officer.

Drinking in Public. Small bruise.

Turnstyle jumping. Small bruise.

Arrested for _____________but it was reduced to DC. You don't remember what you were originally arrested for but you remember what you pled to ? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm , this raises a RED flag

DUI/DWAI Moderate to big bruise , especially depending on how long ago it occurred.

You may not feel that you are a criminal but you do have a criminal history. And everything you did was either intentional or reckless. There was no " mistake " involved. A mistake is when your socks don't match.

Without knowing the DETAILS of your _______________arrest and how long ago your DUI/DWAI was , nobody can make a decent guess as to your chances. But they certainly WILL impact your future in the world of LE.

thanks for the reply...
I know I don't set the tone, but I figured I'd ask for honesty...without harsh judgement

In regards to _____ Its easier to remember disorderly conduct than the legal jargon of the actual charge at the time ( I was alot younger)
In front of my house, there was a stolen/strpped car.
At the time I was working as an "electrician's helper" so I had a philips head screwdriver on me.
I was young and curious so I was looking in the car, but then stopped.
A while later i was out there talking to this kid and NYPD pulled up and arrested us both for stripping the car...
Again, I had a philips head screwdriver -only... and if you know anything about cars you can't strip it with a philips head.
Not to mention, I had no property from the car on me.
All I remember was something pertating to possesion of burgular tools...and something else.
I was young and scared so instead of fighting it(which I should have), I just plead guilty to disorderly conduct because they said it's not a crime.

In regards to the word mistake... for the sake of argument I will refer to it as lack of better judgement....is that fair to say?

i think you have too much baggage for either of those departments. With nypd, it is my call that they are going to get alot tougher on their hiring standards especially with the new raise. This is just my opinion however. Especially with a dwi within a year, i think you might have made one too many "mistakes" in your life. But it is just my opinion, try, you have nothing to lose! but you may be bettter off waiting to get some time with the dwi
