"Good Cops, Bad Verdict...How Racial Politics Convicted us of Murder."
Written by: Larry Nevers - Detroit PD
If you recall, Larry Nevers was one of two Officers (The other, Walter Budzyn) who was convicted of the murder of Malice Green in Detroit in November of 1992. Very recent after the Rodney King incident, this book is an intriguing take on Nevers' career, and the incident that occured that November evening. Take his story for what it is worth, and make your own assumption. But I promise you will not put this one down.

I had to put it down about 3/4 through because it made me too angry. I used to work for Wayne Co and knew (and still do) alot of DPD guys including Larry and it pissed me off about the BS he had to go through and things really havent changed much in that dept. It was cool though in the beginning because there were alot of things I didnt know about Larry in it. Then talking to guys that were there for alot of it, one of the M.E. guys I get to see on calls once in a while was there for the investigation and is in the book, told me a bit about the BS that went down and it really made me think what my own dept would do if that ever happened. Be safe all!

Is that the one where the two plain clothes cops got into a struggle with the bad guy and when the bad guy was trying to yank one of the officers' guns out of the holster, one of the officers smacked him in the head with a flashlight?

In a nutshell...yes. There is a lot more to the story, however. Just take my word for it and check this book out. Worth a read even if you aren't a reader. The title says it all....

I wasn't disappointed but I was extremely disgusted with everything Larry and Walter have gone through! It's truly pathetic and a mockery of the so-called justice system. I read it several months ago and have passed the book onto a few other guys I work with. They too were quite impressed with the book. I think Larry did a great job writing it. And, I think everyone coming on the job needs to read it.
Incidentally, there is a website for the book:

According to the book, Larry and Walter both have been out of prison for sometime now (Unless I missed something).

I don't think anyone will really know what happened or why. All I know is if I was put in this situation and some cracked out goon reached for my weapon during a struggle I would've probably reacted in the same way. What's wrong with society, honestly? If that day ended in the deaths of two LEO's it'd be out of the news in a week or two. Instead, a drug user who happened to be black resisted arrest and attempted to take an officer's weapon dies due to injuries that were inflicted because of HIS actions and a good cop gets convicted to avert riots.
