Is Anybody going into the July 2008 Police Academy Class for the NYPD?
If so is anyone on Long Island and looking for people to Carpool with? I am in Nassau county and looking for people to carpool with as i will not be taking the train. You are not allowed to sit on the train, and after having a long day i dont feel like having the need to stand for an hour on the way home after running around all day. Driving may be a bit of a pain but sitting down after a long day is a nice perk i think.

I just got the call yesterday.

"Be at Queens College at 0700 hours in business attire, bring 2 money orders, clipboard, pens and so on..."

I live out in Suffolk County. The commute is going to be a pain... In a way I'm hoping for the PM class just because I won't be stressing about waking up and I heard the commute is smoother. The only downside I could see is not being able to put my one year old to sleep 5 days a week for the next year.

On the other hand, I've worked overnights for the past 3 years, so transitioning to the AM class would be very difficult.

Are you going to take the train or drive? I am looking for people to carpool because i dont want to be standing on the train there and back after long days. It's easier with a few people to split the gas, tolls and parking garage and the parking garage is right near the academy. Also there is no rushing to penn station trying to catch trains.

Do me one favor! Consider your screen name right now. No think about it after your a cop and been on the job 5 years? Still want to be called "new guy" after a few years! Probably not! Change it now (make a new acocunt) now while you only have 3 posts and not 4,000! You'll thank me later!

Its Only A Screen Name. If I Could Just Change The Name Without The Whole Entire Account I Would. Though I Have Been Conversing With Some People About Carpooling And Other Things Which Is More Important Than A Screen Name. Besides It Took Me Forever For Some Reason To Get Activated On The Site. If You Know A Way That I Can Change My Name Without My Whole Entire Account Then It Would Be Fine. Otherwise Im Not That Computer Savvy To Do It All Over Again And Wait A Week To Be Activated Like I Did Last Time. But Let Me Know If You Know The Way To Just Change The Name. Thanks

You say that now. But you won't be saying that in 5 yeasr when you have 4000 posts. Look to teh future and plan ahead...aprt of being a good cop. Look long term, Not just here, but in everything you do.

Don't be lazy either. Nothing good comes easy. If you slack here, you might to dit it in the academy. make it a rule in your life for the next 6 months not to slack in anything. It will make you a better recruit and eventually a better a cop which means a better member of society!

Otherwise Im Not That Computer Savvy To Do It All Over Again
Give yourself more credit!!!! You did it once, you can do it again!

But Let Me Know If You Know The Way To Just Change The Name. Thanks
Hockey took care of you!

Congrats on getting in. Don't worry about car pooling right now. You can make arrangemenst with people right now with agreements, and when you finally go there you might end up on different shifs. Work this out when you meet your company. Somebody will be in teh same boat and on the same schedule!

I am far from lazy. I ran a mortgage company for over 5 years and consistantly worked 6 days a week with 15 16 hour days..I also have a father retired from NYPD, brother who transferred to suffolk county, as well as about 5 pesonal friends on the job and another 10 cops i just met through others that i have done business with in the past. 1 of them is going to get me somewhere nice when the time is right. Good luck to everyone else that got a call and to those that did not hopefully backfill or you are done till January.

You have a quick trigger, and, I'm willing bet your not the only guy with friends, hooks, cranes, etc... HOWEVER, the most successful people don't brag about their personal network it in a public forum, or at all.

First off, good luck

Second, click Joeyd's profile and read his posts, he has a lot of info he is nice enough to share with us "new" officers, they willl make you job/life easier.

Congrads on running a mortgage company, unless you wore body armor, a firearm and had people try to cause you harm during one of those 16 hours, please don't brag about it here, you will see it doesn't compare.

Don't respond, just read and digest the climate on here

Some of you are out of your minds. What are you talking about. i said what i said not to brag, but to merely point out the fact that working 16 hour days is not lazy ( a reply to the guy who wanted me to switch my name on here ) ..the reply had nothing to do with bragging or what i did or anything like that. It was to prove a point that people who work and have worked days like that and 6 days or 7 days a week doing that are far from lazy. You just seem to miss the point. Try reading between the lines before going off on someone with your opinions on how someone will do in an academy without even knowing the person. Assumption of one is not a great character trait!

Is there are reason you don't capitalize your I's? Just thought I would ask because that is really annoying.

New,
These officers pointed out the fact that 15 or 16 hour days at a mortgage company is NOTHING like a 8 or 12 hour shift as a police officer. You didn't have people who would kill you just because of your job. You didn't have to fight for you life, you didn't have to deal with the scum of the earth day in and day out. You might have a GREAT work ethic but then again, as you stated we do not know you, so these officers told you not to compair your mortgage job with this job, because there is no comparison.
