My post just did a food drive for the local food pantry. We sat outside the local grocery store and handed individuals going into the store a little 3X5 card with the stuff that the food pantry was running low on. So you would think that this was just a food drive right? Wrong! We turned in into a fund raiser! How?

We had each explorer get a MINIMUM of 10 "pledges" that would pledge .10 an item up to a maximum of $10. This means that if we got 100 items they would give the explorer $10, and at a MINIMUM of 10 @$10 a piece, that equals $100 per explorer. We have 17 explorers so 100 X 17= $1,700 total right? Wrong! Each of our explorers got 20+ pledges a piece, so 200X17= $3400!!!! OH YEAH, WE ALSO COLLECTED 1,653 ITEMS FOR THE FOOD PANTRY!

We were going to have to pay $200 per explorer to go to the National Competition. Now we don't have to pay anything. This also means that we are finally going to get duty belts (I already have one for work but, we are getting FULL duty belts for training/events). So I have started looking into how to organize our belts. I will post a thread about that, so if you other explorers are looking for a good fund raising idea, there you go.

Wow, congratulations BigFan. You guys tackled two things that needed to be done (the food and the money for competition) all in one. :)

When my explorer sergeant brought up the idea, we all thought; So if we have to ask the village board to spend some money on us at least they can see we have actually done something !
