Just saw the trailer for the new Call of Duty, titled War At War. Seems to encompass the entire WWII spectrum. From Iwo Jima to France and all points in between.

As a veteran of Uncle Sam's Misguided Children, the pacific war has a particular appeal to BIG. Especially considering he spent over four (4) years out of six(6) in the part of the globe.

Graphics look great, here's hoping the story line is just as good.

The commercial didn't say when the game would be released, implying that it's in stores now. Which of course is not the case. Here is a synopsis of the game.

Activision and Treyarch have announced more details on "Call of Duty: World at War," revealing that the game will run on the "Call of Duty 4" engine and will include co-operative play.

"Utilizing the Call of Duty 4(r): Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War throws out the rulebook of war to transform WWII combat through a new enemy, new tactics and an uncensored experience of the climatic battles that gripped a generation. As U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers, players will employ new features like cooperative gameplay, and weapons such as the flamethrower in the most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date.

"With Call of Duty: World at War, we're re-defining what it means to play a WWII game," said Mark Lamia, Studio Head for Treyarch. "We're excited to give players a host of new enemies that employ entirely new tactics, as well as new, groundbreaking tools - like co-op and the flamethrower - to succeed in the epic fight."

Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-operative play, bringing fresh meaning to the "No One Fights Alone" mantra with up to four-players online for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, or two-player local split-screen on consoles. Nintendo Wii will also support a unique co-op mode for two players. For the first time ever players will experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The co-op campaign allows players to rank up and unlock perks in competitive multiplayer by completing challenges and earning experience points, adding continuous re-playability and team-based gameplay. Whether playing competitively or cooperatively - if players are online with Call of Duty: World at War - they will always gain experience points. Based on a player's experience rank and rank of the player's friends, Call of Duty: World at War will scale dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge.

Call of Duty: World at War is in development for the Xbox 360(r) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION(r)3 computer entertainment system, Nintendo(r) Wii(tm) and Games for Windows(r). The title is scheduled for release this fall and has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

The game looks really good, having a flamethrower sounds pretty cool. I also like how the game will include both the Pacific and Europe theatres.

This site has a lot of talk about the game;

Most of it seems like a lot of speculation, but the game looks realy cool.

I'm tired of WW2 games. I have been playing them for years. I wish they had stayed with the Modern Combat theme.

I agree.

I think the game looks fun, and I'll most likely buy it. However, I think there is a LOT more to be done with the Modern Warfare theme.

Treyarch will hit a homerun with this one and I'm making a prediction about the next COD. It will be Korea. Yep, you heard it here first.:D

As for this one can you say 60 frames per second?:)

Never purchased any of the previous COD's, before COD4. Was very happy to see that this one incuded the pacific theater and the Marines who fought there.

As a veteran of the U.S.M.C., am always happy to see BIG's beloved Corps' portrayed on the small, big or video screen.

Anyone planning on getting Battlefield: Bad Company? I downloaded and played the demo, and loved the online multiplayer. Light and heavy tanks, jeeps, helicopters, good times.

I've got it. It seems I'm infinately worse then every other player out there in MP though.

I can't seem to get the laser designator(recon class) to work properly. My missle always misses the target, even if the target hasn't moved. Any suggestions?

You know you can guide your missle in to the target with the left stick. I have nailed a bunch of tanks, but if they are moving they can at times get out of range and be difficult to hit. Also, splash damage is limited, so you need either a direct hit or VERY close hit to do damage and destroy the target.

I didn't know that! No wonder my missles were just hitting the dirt. I was just hitting the target with the laser and waiting for the missle to do the rest.

If the left stick doesnt work, try using the right stick. One of them guides the bomb in, I can't for sure remember which one it is though. LOL.

I feel the same way. I remember when Medal of Honor came out and I thought Oh, this is great. WWII. Finally something different! And then came the 13 other games in the Medal of Honor series, not to mention Call of Duty, Call of Duty: United Offensive, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, and then Call of Duty 3. But don't forget Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII, Brothers in Arms, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Company of Heroes, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, The Outfit, and of course Day of Defeat. (BTW, this list is just a sliver of the total number of WWII games)

Personally, I'd like a COD game to take place during the Vietnam conflict. I know there have been a few 'Nam-based games in recent years, but they all bombed.

Mmmm.. I wasn't under the impression that ... was it BF:Vietnam(? can't find my box right now?) was a bomb... I rather liked it.

Of course, I am talking PC games. I don't own a console.

Ah, that one actually slipped my mind. I've never played BF:Vietnam, to be honest. I was going to buy it, but then I found out about the Desert Combat mod for BF:1942.

I am guessing the single player missions in BF:Vietnam featured the same bots with spotty AI found in BF:1942? I actually like good single player games more than anything, so to be more specific, I would like to see a good single player experience set in the Vietnam era. :)

I ran through two matches before I went on duty and it's not bad. The ranking system, hud, controls, and gameplay are pretty much identical to Call of Duty 4.
Only real differences that I've noticed are the weapons and the maps.

I played for a few hours yesterday. It almost feels TOO much like COD 4, like its COD 4 wearing a WW2 skin. I wanted to see more variation in the perks and challenges. They carried ALOT over from COD 4, maybe because they are using the same game engine. Even the menus are the same.

I'm still undecided on the 7 kill streak bonus. Part of me likes calling in a pack of dogs, part of me doesnt. Need more time to decide.............

I agree with you 7mm, but when I say it is TOO much like COD4 I also think to myself, "But I LOVED COD4!!"

If have an extra BETA key if anyone with XBL wants it.

All you have to do is put

What is beta?

7mmMag
10-19-08, 03:34 AM
A beta test is when a developer releases a small portion of the game to a group of players, in this case three multiplayer maps and several multiplayer modes. This is so the developer can test the game's online stability and gather feedback from players on things like glitches and gameplay issues.

It was a good game, the single player was ok, but the multiplayer was what I really bought it for. Huge maps, lots of vehicles, with some elements of strategy needed to win.

Damn, the online multiplayer team against team is addictive, to say the least.

I rented COD5, World at War this weekend, and my boy and I took turns playing the multiplayer all weekend. It was pretty addictive and pretty fun.

I didn't like the single player much, but I think I will end up buying it just for the online play (we play as "Treystyle" on X-Box live).

I'm the product of about a hundred thousand dollars worth of firearms and tactical training, and I'm not nearly as good as my seven year old son. :D

Anyone else take advantage of Double XP weekend?

I usually play COD4, but since it was Double XP weekend on COD 5, I used the opportunity to rank up. I went from 14 to 30 (Yeah, I suck at COD 5 :o ).

Search and Destroy was kick ***, 100 per kill, 200 just for planting the bomb.
