I was wondering if anyone knows any breeders in or around connecticut. I'm looking at mainly akitas, yellow labs or golden retreivers.

get a german shepherd and I can put you 9n touch with some breeders.....don't know about any others.

My Uncle is one of the top breeders in Connecticut. He will do a complete and thorough backround check on you before he gives you one. PM is interested, and you will certainly pay for the lab...but they are WELL worth it.

Bro I already tried the German Sheppard route. This was the wife's quote to me. “They are not family dogs, you can't play with them. All they want to do is patrol the parameter." She believes this dog would wake up in the morning, make his coffee, put on a badge and gun belt and patrol the neighborhood. This is what I put up with. The compromise was an akita, which is essentially a trained killer, but because they are "furry" and are good around kids (she had one when she was growing up) we can have one.

Call my dad and ask him about their dog "Taz". He's the most laid back, laziest dog you've ever seen. He loves going for walks and playing....he also goes crazy when people come over because he wants to be the center of attention. Kids can kick this dog in the face and he still wouldn't bite....he just shies away. It's all in how you train the dog.

Personally, I would LOVE a dog that would get up and make coffee....:D:D:D

My neighbor has a shepherd, the thing gets free all the time, and is out patroling for kids to play with. All the dog wants to do is play with kids...you should SEE the dog when the bus comes rolling around....funny as all heck..

Akita's are not patient dogs at all..

I was told the other day, that the dog with the highest percentage of unprovoked attacks...are black labs.

We had a pit-bull that would allowthe cat to beat the living crap out of him all the time...very entertaining. :p

Same here, it would be nice to have a pet that could do that. I'm suprised about the black labs. I had one when I was a kid and loed him, he was the best. No problems.
I have heard somethings about the akita and his temperment. I guess it all goes back to training.

No offense, but your Wife don't know jack about Sheppards. Mine is a great family pet. Here she is with her kitten.

I once had a couple of German Shepherds, and one thing I learned about them is that they're highly eager to please.

But like others have stated, it's all in how you raise and train the dog.

Your wife should study German Shepherds before she makes an assumption of how they really behave.

I believe the tides maybe turning in my favor.I spent about a good twenty mins making fun of her. She has agreed to look into them a little more. My new plan is to take her to some breeders and she will fall in love.

I have had lots of lab mixes over the years and you can't beat them.

Good temperament with kids. Deep bark and protective of the family.

Like any middle or large breed, they can have hip issues.

I have a 2 yr old chocolate male, 1st PB in our family. He came from a breeder located in New Hampshire near the Lebanon area. Would highly recommend as they have a very clean home and the animals seem very social.
