Well, my EMT classes are finally coming to an end tonight. Yep, last night of late schooling, no more instructors breathing down my neck on practical scenarios, and no more worrying about passing! After tonight that is...

I've got my comprehensive final tonight, everything on the test from back to Day 1 on Jan. 9th. I've been studying, and I am pretty sure I'll do okay and pass, but gotta say I'm still pretty nervous!

So, I figured I'd come on here and ask for some good wishes. So send 'em my way and I'll let ya'll know how I did later tonight after the test.

Oh, and I'll be needing the good wishes again in a couple weeks when I take my State certification exams! YIKES! :D

I am sure you will do fine, as long as you took it seriously all along, and it's pretty clear you have, I say don't worry about it!

Many thanks to all of you who wished me luck, it went well heeded by the Final Gods!

I was actually pretty worried right after the dang thing 'cause I thought I was guessing WAY too much, but I must have guessed well, because I passed with flying colors!

90.31 on the Final Exam, gives me a 95.2 for the overall class (EMT III) which was the only "A" given!

We had an atrocious attrition rate!! About 65%!! Started with 23, went into the final with 10, and lost 2 more tonight!! YIKES!!

But I know I made it, so thanks again to everyone, especially you Pookie, since I got the "A" you sent! LOL :p

Now I've got to apply for and wait for the state exam... But supposedly our instructor makes his Final's way worse than the state so we know we're prepared for it.

:D:D:D:D

MP - If you fail, don't bother coming back to RP.

Do you have to take the National Registry?

Do you have to take the National Registry?

Crazily enough, I don't. I do, however, have to take a Florida state exam which will certify me here in FL as well as the National Registry. Then it'll be up to me to decide if I want to keep the NR current thru CEU's and such. But Florida doesn't subscribe to the NR standards, so I can go without and stay an EMT in FL for the rest of my life if I want. I would only have to keep the NR current if I decided to try to become an EMT in another state.

Man, good thing you posted that after I had already passed!! :D

I would have really hated to leave RP had I failed a test that wasn't even LE related!! LOL

Congratulations.
Now put your training to use confidently. It's great for EMS when they show up on a scene and PD is actually doing CPR or can help the first EMS crew setup while additional resources (c-spine, cricoid pressure, BVM, moving/loading, getting medical history from family) or at least understands our needs on-scene and helps us out indirectly (clearing space for gurney, leaving an out for the ambulance, etc)

+1! We love the PD, even when they aren't EMT's, ours always step up to the plate and help out.

Thanks guys, I truly hope to be more of a benefit than a hindrance when EMS shows up when I'm on the LE job. I definitely already look at some situations a bit differently due to the training I've received, not to mention which my dispatcher will consistently send me out on any medical call over all the others! LOL

I also hope to gain some experience by getting a part-time job as an EMT (along with earning a little extra $$).

But for right now, I'm just going to enjoy NOT having to go to school two nights a week and the occasional weekend! Spend some time enjoying my family too. Plus, I'm gonna keep the studying going, although at a reduced rate, so I'm good for the state exam.

Though I'm sure it was nothing for you. ;)
