No matter what Ozzie did, theres no excuse for that. I'm glad he hasn't been suspended. I'm glad he will be playing tomorrow. I'm feeling McCarty and a few others will be putting a massive whooping now.

This is going to get nasty for Dallas if you ask me :p :D

IMO, way too many NHL players are goons. Often, what comes around goes around and the "victims" probably had it coming for something they themselves did to others in the past. IMO, there is way too much BS cheap play that is allowed in hockey - detracts from the game. That's probably the main reason why I don't really watch it - I love the game in its "purity" but not the way many pros/teams play it.

Call me a wuss, but fighting has no place in a team sport (unless it's like IFL MMA, etc). IMO, if you want to fight, OK, then let's fight and ONLY fight - forget about playing/winning the game. If you want to play, OK, then let's play and see who is better and/or who will win - no cheap sh1t...

I watched it over and over and I don't believe it hit him in the face. I think he hit him in the shoulder and Osgood went flopping around.

It was a cheap shot and he'll definately get his in the next game.

Fighting has it's place in hockey. The "enforcers" actually police the game in a way. If you have no fighters or enforcers then the goons will take cheap shots at your star players. If you have a tough enforcer then he'll take care of the problem most ricki tick.

The Wings arent a fighting team and I'd say McCarty is their enforcer but he has some mileage on him. The other team doesn't respct him so that's why you had the cheap slash.

The Penguins have IMO the best enforcer in the game Georges Laraque. You don't see cheap shots taken on Malkin or Crosby. If there are then it's dealt with in a devastating manner.

Fighting has it's place....it's hockey NOT crochet.

It is what it is. IMO, it ain't what it Should be... All the cheap stuff is why I no longer play league/organized hockey. I'd have no problem either stepping into a ring/octagon with the punks or playing clean with the non-punks - IMO, the two don't mix; I'd prefer not to have to watch my back when I'm trying to play with skill/finesse.

Sure hockey isn't crochet but it ain't "all that" (tough) either...

Btw, if hockey is "self-regulating", I don't see much reason to have refs... screw it, let em all fight for as long as it takes. In the end, the team that has 3-4 guys still able to stand on their skates wins...

Hmm sounds like a good idea for a new sport. I mean UFC is a pretty big hit.

Players taking skates off Happy Gilmore style...

Btw, hard to tell, but it sure looked like Osgood did some acting there. Looked like he got hit upper left chest, shoulder, bicep area. I would imagine his protective equipment took most, if not all, of the impact...

Also IMO, it is a combination of a lack of rules, enforcement of rules, and/or penalties for rule violations that fosters the atmosphere in hockey where ADW's (hitting someone with a hockey stick) routinely occur...

You come at me in the street with a hockey stick and I can shoot you. But in hockey, it's borderline OK to do...

Whether it hit him on the mask or shoulder it was still a cheap shot after the buzzer. He should be penalized and suspended for 1 game. When he skates again they're gonna return favor. Fighting will always be a part of hockey no matter what rule changes they make.

Hockey: You get a vulcanized piece of rubber that turns your teeth into Chicklets and makes your face into a roadmap. They go to the locker room and get stiched up and go right back to playing the game.

Baseball: You get a hangnail or a blister and you're on the DL for a week.

Football: You get a turf toe and you're out for 2 weeks.

I've even seen a hockey ref get a puck in the teeth and he got a trainer to stick a Q tip of numbing agent in the ROOT of the broken tooth and kept in the game.

I think you missed my point on the role of the enforcer. I'm not saying to get rid of all the refs and making it into a free for all.

It was a cheap shot but Osgood "acted" quite a bit. A fine I agree with but I want him to play in the next game. :D

True....I posted that without prior knowledge of what Osgood did (I missed the game due to work).

I think Osgood should consider a career in the WWE with that flop he pulled. He was acting like Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken carved out his eye!!!! Next game should be good!!!:D

I got your point(s). My point is that, IMO, there shouldn't be a Need for enforcers...

No question that many hockey players Are tough. Hockey IS a tough sport compared to let's say the game of Golf... Not every baseball player or football player is a whiney little wuss - there are plenty of stories of "toughness" for just about every (real) sport.

It doesn't take a "tough guy" to cheap shot someone else when they're not looking or when the ref isn't looking. In my book, guys who do that are cowards, plain and simple. And it's worse when you see very skilled guys lowering themselves to goon level.

I don't consider hockey as tough as boxing or MMA or full contact stickfighting, etal. Ain't no teammates helping you out, ain't no sucker punches/cheap shots when the other person or ref isn't looking, ain't no picking someone out of your weight class to fight against his wishes, etc.

Both guys trying to put each other's lights out - both guys Knowing that the other is trying to put the hurt on them. When I watch a sport, I like to watch the sport aspect only. If I want to watch fighting, I just want to watch fighting...

I don't like pickles on my burgers. I don't like that purple cabbage stuff in my salads. I don't like seeds in my grapes. I'm pretty simple-minded... :D

Good find Samuel! Football is my favorite sport but I still give the nod to NHL. Not only do they have less protection but they play with a big stick AND razor sharp blades on each foot. :D
