Governor undergoes emergency surgery
LANSING (WJRT) -- (04/30/08)--Gov. Jennifer Granholm's surgeon says she is resting comfortably and could be hospitalized for up to a week.
The governor underwent emergency surgery Tuesday night to repair a bowel obstruction.
The condition stemmed from injuries she sustained 15 years ago in a traffic accident following former President Bill Clinton's inauguration.
The procedure forced the governor to postpone Wednesday's planned investment trip to Israel and Kuwait.
Dr. Timothy McKenna told reporters Wednesday afternoon that Granholm's prognosis was good.
Granholm's spokeswoman says the governor wasn't feeling well on Sunday. She reported having flu-like symptoms Monday, but kept her schedule.
She was admitted to the hospital Tuesday afternoon. The 49-year-old governor was taking pain medication Wednesday, but was alert and spent some time walking around.
