Before I retired from a city agency, I worked out in a fairly well equipped gym at the department.
The county has smaller gyms at various county complexes which are available to all employees. Very basic equipment, but sufficient to build and maintain.

I have been off of active duty for about 6 months now, and BOY is it starting to show! I will be heading to Gold's tomorrow to get a tour and will probably buy a membership. I really need to get back into shape, it is sad.

I have a gym membership, which I use every other day usually 3 or 4 days a week. It all depends on the week, example today I'm putting in a 16hr day so I won’t be getting a workout in. In-between gym days, I'm running 3-5 miles (again depends on the day) through the neighborhood.

My old office had a great gym. The office I have been in for the last 9 years leaves a little to be desired, though it has improved a bit.
I have paid for a membership to a club since 1999. They give an LEO discount, so it is not too bad at all. I like getting away to myself for working out anyways.

I have a gym membership.
I recall we spoke of this not too long ago. I did, at one time, subscribe to a local gym, but couldn't stand the egotistical, foo-foo, cliquish BS that went on there.
They are building a HUGE LA Fitness in my city and I intend on starting up as a ground floor member there when it opens. Hopefully it won't be the same as the place mentioned above.
I still miss the old P.D. gym that was predominately free weights, stunk and was full of screaming profanity as we pushed it to the limit. ;)

I will be using the agency gym soon.
I went to my old membership gym today after several months away ... and they had turned it into a :eek::confused::( yoga gym! Half the lights were turned off, it was about 140 degrees, and there were hippies!!!!!!
Sure, they still had weights and cardio stuff, but the mood lighting and crap just ain't right...

I prefer the smell of sweat to patchouli and "herbs" any day.
This is unrelated, but does that mean you won on your medical history? Congratulations in advance!
PS
I both go to a commercial gym which my insurance reimburses me for and work out at home.

Not cleared yet, but I'm maintaining a cautiously optimistic stance... I sent my doc the paperwork to be completed, she said she's sending it back to the agency doc today.
Hopefully, I'll know by mid-week next week. (Fingers crossed.) Thanks in advance, though -- I'm sure it will work out somehow.
I normally work out in my mind. I haven't gotten to the point that I can bring myself to actually PHYSICALLY work out yet but I often think about it and they say that's a start! :D
Interesting thread.
Since I'm not a sworn member, I don't have access to the gym at my local agency, so I just use the one at my University. Free is free! ;)

Yep, there days at that gym I wasn't sure if it was a game of spot the future felon or that Victoria’s Secret just had a 75% off sale on their gym attire. Of course when the guys walk by smelling like an Abercrombie cologne explosion...
Good luck on your attempt at LA Fitness. I've heard both positive and negative about that place.
A new Golds Gym just opened near me. It's really nice but I'm spending more time at the smoothie bar than working out. :D:p

Gym membership, they just opened one up in the town I live in, it is 24/7/365 which is nice because the days off that I am not working thirds, I will go in at like 3am just so I can keep my sleep pattern. They have a little braclet that you wear so that if you get in any trouble you push the button and it calls the Emergancy Services (Police and EMS). I love working out there, they have nothing but Hardcore rock playing in the weight room, and running area.
There is also a seperate part for yoga, that is sound proof, so I don't have to workout next to some hippie, who smells of POT!

I just got home from the 24 hour down the street. I LOVE working out at 230 in the morning. I drive by the place around 6pm on my way to work and the lot is packed. I think there might have been one other person there tonight, and I think he was an employee on his break.

Luckily, no one bother me at my gym. I have my sound blocking earphones in (good enough to shoot a .50BMG while wearing them), with hard rock playing. I have enough ink that the soccer moms and high school kids stay away and I am usually bouncing around enough that other don't want to interfere.
Without the earphones, I think I would all the 45 plates I could, load them on a decline bench's bar, and drop it on my neck, praying for a quick death. This is he best gym I can find that is convenient at all and they play this stinking Jack FM on the radio all the time. Imagine hearing a little REO Speedwagon, John Mayer, Fergy, and then Barry Manilo. OMG, it is physically painful! Thank God for my Zune!

I have my garage turned into a powerlifting gym with a power rack, deadlifting station, smith machine and a bench. I have about 1000lb's that I have accumulated over Craigs List mostly, and keep on adding to it.
We have a very nice gym at the port, access to the AF Reserve base, and I also belong to Best Fitness.
I use Best Fitness for the times that I can go with my wife otherwise, I wouldn't have a memebership. They have signs up that say no powerlifters or bar benders wanted!
I have a meet in the morning matter of fact. I will post my results later this week with some video too. It is my first full meet this year, and I am too excited to sleep.
Opening as follows, and going from there. 198lb Wt. Class Police and Fire Division. UPSTATE NY II www.wnpf.com
Squat- 500lb's
Bench- 330lb's
Dead- 450lb's

I have had no problems whatsoever with the LA Fitness I belong to.

Well, I am sore as all get out. Did well and took 1st place in the 198lb class.
Hit all my openers with ease, and had some hiccups.
Bench- 330, 350, 370
Smoked the 2nd and 3rd lifts, but moved my feet...no good.
Squat- 500, 550, 585
3rd lift no good, not enough to pull it out of the hole.
Deads- 450, 500, 515
All good lifts, and more to spare, but who knew!
.......and took 1st place in the 198lb class.
Congrats. Way to go.

At least I work out in my neighbourhood. I drive with my bike 25 km every second day.
And this 25 km are not easy....:D
2006 I work out at a gym, but I like to work out outside, so I quit my membership.
Bevor I had an cruciate rupture I play soccer, but now I have to spare my knee, so that I ride my bike. This is very good for my knee! :D
I walk south of town to the fish farm my mom used to work at it's about 4 miles. I just joined a group last night for a Biggest Loser Contest, we'll have weigh ins and measurements everything Thursday night. I don't care if I win or not, I just want to get in shape and meet my goal weight which is 141lbs. less then what I weigh now.

I work out in a Gold's Retro. It is in this dingy basement. No windows, a few wicked old tv's for the people on the treadmills, and lots and lots of iron, with chalk all over the place. "Gravity always wins, but at least you can let it know it was in a fight."

Best gym ever is the bayshore athletic club in Braintree MA. I was a member for $19.99 and this place is huge.
Now I pay $50.00 (Family) a month at the local Y and they have no equipment...
I have a decent gym at home too so if I am not in the mood for driving at $4.00 a gallon I walk to my garage and throw some weight around :D

Same here! I cannot get out of my gym membership yet, but when I can, I won't re-up. I have over a 1000lb's now in my garage and everything I need. I just need a squat rated bar now because Big Tim bent the hell outta my regular bar with his monster squats.:D

I did, at one time, subscribe to a local gym, but couldn't stand the egotistical, foo-foo, cliquish BS that went on there.
I've stuck to going for regular brisk walks around the neighborhood when it's nice out, and jogging in place to dance-pop music when it's not, for the same reason. Those machines do look awfully tempting, though, especially all the "glider" types, so eventually I'll succumb... :D

I work out at home... sometimes my home, sometimes her home... ;) lol. Sorry for dragging it into the gutter, but someone had to, and... after all... that's really great exersize. :D
Since all I do is run...either my local high school track or any one of several neighborhood courses that I came up with. I am happy that my cardio and BP are great.
last BP 104/64 , can get my resting pulse down to 40 if I lay still a while :) Normal pulse at the end of 3 + miles is 168-180.

For me I use an elliptical at work everyday. 4.5 miles with 670 calories 4 days a week. On the weekend I usually hike anywhere from 3 to 10 miles on mountainous terrain.
Since I started all this I've went from 206 lbs to 187. I've got about 10 to go for my target weight.

I'm retired military so I utilize my benefits and work out at a near by military installation. It's a nice getaway. When I run I usually run a variation of three routes through my neighborhood.
On the other hand, if I utilized my city benefit and worked out at a particular gym (which is top notch and closer to home) just twice a month (logged) I would get the annual cost reimbursed to me at the end of each year. But then I'd run into other cops and all they want to talk about is police work.
