Norm you'll be happy to know that I live in a primarily Conservative county, and my family, well my dad, owns multiple guns. That he has taken us to the range to use.

We're not all crazy liberals. :) The other 99% of the state on the other hand...

Where in NJ are we all from? I'm originally from the Essex/Union area and now live in the Morris/Somerset area.

I live in Jersey but work in Philly. I grew up in Union County but live in Bergen County now but since the 200+ miles in the car each day is starting to get old real fast, I'll probably be moving to Mercer or Burlington once I finish the academy.

All ya got up there is polluted water from Novartis and Pfizer dumping drugs into the waste system and deer.

My family moved here from the Essex/Union part of the state and my dad grew up in a city here in NJ. We were shocked by all the deer. We had never seen so many.

You get used to them though. It's not uncommon to see anywhere from 1-15 deer just standing in your yard. I once saw 16 deer in my yard, yes I counted. lol

I still say we are the best part of the state.

I don't think I have ever spent any time at Cape May or Wildwood. Wouldn't it be dull living down the shore during the summer? I guess maybe being in the military there'd be more to do in the winter, plus I bet you didn't have much choice. :) (Being in the military and all.)

Did you want to be stationed so close to home? I personally want to be stationed away from home when I join the military.

The jersey Shore was weird sometimes.....summer was a blast because of the tourists, clubs, beaches, parties, but it also sucked due to tourists, traffic, etc etc :D. Winter was a nice relief from all that....but it got boring kinda quick! Absolutely not much to do in the winter. I would spend it playing hockey but even that wasn't too close by.

I spent my first two years on a ship in CA. After "A" school they offered specific billets (jobs) only. I.E 18 in the class = 18 random ships/land units offered. All the billets in CA were ships like the one I just left (was tired of being underway), many were in Alaska (spent too much time sailing those waters...screw living there)....so basically Cape May was the best choice I could make from awful picks!!!

I grew up in South Jersey (Berlin; Camden County) and my oldest brother still lives there and so does my best friend. I'm not far from where I used to live, maybe 45 min, but I don't get to cross the WW to get there as much as I'd like.

Doomstu mentioned the Pine Barrens; I used to hang out in Batsto when I was a teenager and I've spent countless hours at Atsion Lake. Fun times.

And of course the shore was the place to be (Wildwood) growing up, but now I much prefer Cape May, since it's much, much more low key, or Ocean City, because it's a family resort and a dry town.

So Big, do tell. Where did you grow up in Jersey?

Born and raised in Paramus. Uncle Sam took me all over the place, and I ended up in Austin. But I would absolutely LOVE to move back to The Garden State! It's just that crazy hiring process (and the accompanying long-*** wait) that keeps me away. I see what those dudes over on NJLawman are saying, and it scares me. I will always claim Jersey as my home though.

I remember Paramus well... I lived in Mahwah, moved to Maywood, then Hawthorne... It was a whole different world out there. There was one morning in Mahwah, about 6am, when leaving the house I spotted a large deer on the lawn, with a full set of antlers... Did not get to count the points, but it had to be about 8 or more... My home was less than an hour from downtown Manhattan.

Yes.

And you better brush up on your investigating skills if you want to be a cop. This is common knowledge in NJ, let alone a 10 second google search of "New Jersey Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam."

I also just found this sub-forum. I'm from West Orange (Essex County) and I'm 22. I've lived here my whole life and my parents have lived in the same house for like 35 years. I love Dirty Jersey :D. Anytime people that live here complain about how much it sucks I tell them nobody is stopping ya from leaving.

Before it gets asked, I'm not a LE but I am hoping to become one. I am 99.9% going to be starting at the Passaic County Police Academic February 23, 2009. My grandfather (mom's dad) was Newark, NJ motorcycle cop and my mom's uncle was a cop, I believe in Newark also. Got a few people on my mom's side that are currently LEO's. My dad had at least two cousins that were cops one was in Oakland NJ the other was East Orange.

And just to add I went to Ramapo College Of New Jersey in Mahwah and graduated in May 2008. I plan on staying in Jersey the rest of my life because I think it is a great place. I look forward to joining the Law Enforcement community.

(And just if anybody is wondering, I like sharks hence the screen name)

I once went "missing" at Atsion lake, the lifeguards pulled everyone out of the water and made a human chain to search for my presumably drowned self.

I actually just walked away and was exploring the woods at the age of 5. My poor mother.

I can only imagine how your mother felt. She was probably so panicked, and I can't blame her!

I'll be moving to Tennessee soon, so I'm really going to miss the Jersey shore. Like I already mentioned, I'm fond of Cape May. It's a very quaint town.

I've been just outside of Philly for years and always hated it. I should have stayed in Jersey.

I'm in Mercer County. Former Military, always planned on being a police officer however fate did not have that in its plan for me. I'm a Veteran Service Representative with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs in NJ. Anyone here who is a veteran or knows a veteran please feel free to contact me via PM.

Anyone w/ sufficient knowledge (ie prosecuters etc) what is the state ruling on assisted opening knives? The Switchblade act of 1958 was just amended to specifically exempt all spring assisted knives but a police officer friend of mine told me that his prosecuter says they are illegal. Any input would be appreciated.
