I am 31 years old, haven't been active since HS, and as of a month ago weighed 190 pounds at 6' 1". Since I started working out, I have lost 10 pounds and can do more push ups than when I started (from 8 the first day to 25 now), more situps in a minute than I started (from 35 to 60 now) and running has improved as well (only could run two laps without having to walk when I started, now I can run 2 1/4 miles at a 9:30 minutes a mile rate).
What else do I need to get to where I need to be at? Assuming I get to acadamy I want to be able to run 5 miles at a 9 minute per mile pace, do 40 push ups and get 70 sit ups in a minute.
What does the group have to offer? Thanks in advance...

I was one for three years and have the insight to tell you that your fitness goals can be greatly improved and achieved with a GOOD trainers help. Ask about their certifications and do your homework....otherwise, the internet is a wonderful tool. Learn to sift through the BS and you can really find some great stufff on there

You need to be at the academy graduating standards as this will make your life a lot easier.
Just out of curiousity what kind of sit ups are you doing? Are you fingers interlocked behind you head, knees bent, and are you going all the way up so your elbows pass your knees and you create a 90 degree angle with your butt and back?

try the Power 90 (p90) program so as i progress, i will write in and let ya know how that works. i would also try swimming as a form of exercise as well....doing laps will get your "wind" up to par and beyond.

Once the water warms up in my pool, I will add swimming to my list of activities.
To answer the sit up question-I am doing them as I was instructed to at the physical test-fingers behind my ears, elbows passing my knees on the way up-proper form by the department standards. I prefer to do other ab exercises like crunches or ladder climbers, but since they expect traditional situps at the academy that is what I am focusing on.
