Hi. I am a danish policeofficer and I am starting to look for a job within lawenforcement in the USA.

Does any of you know of any dept. that accepts non US citizens as an officer?

I have 7 years experience within different types of departments of the Copenhagen police dept. (capital of Denmark) :).

Copenhagen police dept. :).

For all these years I thought that was just a brand of chewing tobacco!

Not sure about your question. Someone should be able to answer on here though. We have alot of police officers and federal agents on this board. It's a great wealth of knowledge!

Introduce yourself in our 'Rap Sheets' section. Welcome aboard! :)

We have several officers from other countries, (Including a pair of Twins from Haiti) I'm not sure how they applied, but we did hire them.

Federal Law Enforcement employment without being a US citizen, is not going to happen.

When you refer to Federal law enforcement do you mean policework al together or a specific agency such as the FBI?

I am not interested in agencies such as the FBI. Police dept. or sheriffs dept. have my interest. :)

I don't know of any police depts that would hire a non-US citizen. You would have to come to the US and become a citizen, then apply to departments.

There are a few. Do a search on this board for a couple of threads about them.

The few that do hire non-US citizens from what I recall...at least require you to be in the citizenship process towards getting your full citizenship and some require it by a certain point in time.

I am not sure but it seems to me that Denver, Colorado is one of them.

None of the police and sheriff dept. in louisiana have posted on their webpages that only us citizens can apply. So mayby I will contact some of them to hear more about my oppurtunities there.

Earlier I wrote to jefferson county sheriff dept. in colorado and they confirmed that they do hire none us citizens, they just couldnt help in the process of getting a greencard. But they were interested if I got a greencard.

Later this month I will contact the US embassy here in copenhagen and have a chat with them about my possibilities.

Have spoken with some of the staff there before in workrelated situations and must say they are very kind and extremely helpfull. I am sure I can have a good talk with them.

You would also have to go through the FULL police academy here , your current police credentials will not transfer.

I wouldnt want it any other way. I have to know the laws, procedures tactics ect. But would be more than willing to do all that again. The danish police academy took 3½ and I am ready to do it all again in the USA. :D

It is the same with me. I am Police Officer in Germany, my training took 3 years plus special training and I am willing to do all that again in the states...
