If you have read any of my other threads I am new to the game. My question this time is what is an under belt? Is it just the belt for your pants or does it have some other purpose?

No, that's pretty much what it is. A belt to hold up your pants. It's can be the normal everyday belt you wear.

Thanks. From the descriptions on some of the online gear sites they make it seem like they have some other function.

Yep, it's job is to hold up your pants and keep your duty belt in place.

Yeah. As an explorer (civilian, teen volunteer/apprentice), I'm issued a trouser/garrison/underbelt. All pretty much mean the same thing. My issued belt has the buckle of a duty belt, but is thinner and less wide than a full duty belt, and is called a trouser or garrison belt.

It works fine because I'm only carrying a few pounds of gear so it is double tasking at holding my pants up and carrying some gear.

Some under belts have velcro on them to attach to the duty belt. This helps keep a stronger hold than belt keepers alone. I can't stand seeing sloppy duty belts drooping down or up over the pants/under belt. Worse than a bad gig line. Plain, friggen sloppy.

That is how the CG is set up. Under belt is Velcro that matches up with the duty belt. I still use some belt keepers though.

I wear an thin nylon Army issue belt on my pants and put my utility belt over it. I then use belt keepers to make it stay in place.

I have used a velcro belt because my utility belt has velcro cling on the inside of it. I honestly tried it for a number of months and couldn't stand it.
