I've been in somewhat of the same boat. Some ideas we have come up with:

- Car wash/BBQ (Wash cars. Cook some hotdogs.)
- Maybe ask to get use of your local recreation center and hold a teen dance?
- Going in front of stores and going old school, shaking the can.

Hm..I don't have has many ideas as I thought. Sorry!

Maybe you could just ask your Chief if there is something the explorers can do around the station (Clean an office, wash some cars...) in hopes of getting a purchase order?

Hmmm, my post gets paid money (that unfortunately we don't get directly ;)) from working events, so we don't really need to do fund raisers.

Though, the high school girl's soccer team did a car wash (actually they stood at the exit end of an automatic car wash and toweled the mostly dry cars off) but got donations and money from the gas station.

We do one main event, parking cars at EAA!!! Other than that, we do little things throughout the year. Last year we held a Police Officers v. Police Explorer basketball game and we asked everyone to bring a non-parishable food item, we then had a jar for donations I think we made $200!

This year we are doing Police (officers and explorers) v. Fire (fighters and fire explorers). I would suggest looking at big events in your area, where their is a lot of parking needs, contact the person in charge and see how much they will pay you!

I know up at countryfest, the explorers that park up there get paid $2 for every car!!!!!!!! I spoke with one of the advisors up there and their guys bring in like $3200 a DAY!!!!!!! Its a week long!!!!! I will be calling the person in charge and asking if they would like some more help parking this year, the guys says they are always UNDER staff'd!!!!!

Waco PD Explorers raise money by selling soda, candles, doing car washes, and bbqs. Those are the little things we do. The two big things we do is a christmas ornament with the waco pd symbol on it. They were $10 for one and the cops were buying them left and right. We raised close to $1500. The other thing we are working on is making a coin for the department. It is still in progress but thats what we do. Just ask around in your neighborhood and get ideas from your local rec center and high schools. Good luck with it.:)

You might look in to these entertainment books. At the right time of year everyone wants at least one. I think they sell for 12 bucks a piece and after a certain amount is sold, you get to keep like 80% of the profits.

Go to organizations like American Legion and Lion's Club and beg for money. Lion's Club gave us money in 2002, and in turn we helped them with manpower for one of their fundraisers.

Right now my post is organizing a MAJOR event, a tricky tray, we are expecting to make at least $20,000 in one night. Another post in the same county makes about $20,000. It is alot of work, I am busiest worker bee next to the advisor. The post has to go out and get baskets donated filled with prizes to be actioned off. I keep track of all business we solicited, one we recieved donation from, any personal donations, all the baskets we have completed. Not to forget that all baskets have to be numbered and named. Then every basket has to be listed with contents & donator in a pamhlet for the event. You have to find a location for the auction, find a building to store all the baskets untill the date, get any necessary permits & licenses.

If you can get enough people to make the event work it is totally worth it.

Try this one:

Ask for money from people inside your post so you can buy new equipment. No one tosses up the cash? No one gets new equipment. That's how I'd do it.

Or you could follow any of the above ideas :p
