I currently am a Criminal Justice student at Michigan State University and I am looking for a law enforcement job in Alaska. I have searched a few different website and found a couple that sound pretty good. I was wondering if anyone has heard about the Bethel PD. They are looking for a few officers but it seems that their officers don't stick around for too long. I am wondering why that is. I know AK is a remote and cold area but you would think people would know that before they apply. Maybe it isn't a good agency to be a part of? Also if anyone has heard of any other good agencies out there please let me know. Also on that note are they any PD's anywhere that have programs for out of state apps?

With Your education I think you would stand a really good chance of being picked up by the Alaska State Troopers, or Anchorage P.D. Bethell is a tough gig due to the local population not respecting the non local police. My uncle was an AK Trooper and spent many years in bush postings. He really enjoyed the bush but was glad to get assigned to Fairbanks AST detachment. I was a Law-enforcement explorer in Juneau and I know for a fact they are a good group of people and pay well if you can stand the rain! The Trooper's would be my first choice having to do it over again. They have lots of different things to do and may even pay for flight training. Good luck and I hope you like to do plenty of outdoor activities.
MSUCJ2008,
If I were you I would at least travel up there in the middle of winter and take a commuter plane to Bethel and visit with the AK State troopers and see what they do. Then head back to Anchorage, visit the APD and see for yourself why they are hiring in Bethel. Then you decide.:D
