Do any agencies still use VASCAR? My father was an Indiana State Trooper for many years, and he prefered it to radar. I always enjoyed hearing stories of people he pulled over, with the latest radar detectors that were just flabergasted that they were being pulled over:D
On the same subject, does any one else have any good stories about people that were pulled over that had a radar detector in their car?

In Pennsylvania only the State Police can use RADAR. A lot of the other local agencies use VASCAR and a few other similar systems. My state police will use VASCAR from airplanes for speed enforcement (they radio ground units ahead of you to stop you.) Other states with similar air enforcement will use VASCAR.

I beleive all UK police forces still use Vascar.
Yes, a LOT of PA muinicipal cops use Vascar because we are the ONLY state that does not trust its local cops to use radar.
It is funny when people complain that their radar detector didn't go off when nabbed on vascar. I just tell them there must be something wrong with the detector :)

Don't worry. My state won't allow me to use the Laws of Physics. Accident reconstruction is considered voodoo by the courts and they want none of it. The legislature codified some skid mark distances with a generic coefficient of friction of .70. If it ain't in that table it's hocus pocus.
We aren't allowed to use VASCAR here. Only the airplane can use timing devices.

Nothing wrong with a .70 as long as all your roads are level , dry, are of a moderately worn macadam etc. :)
Do they allow superelevation to be taken into account ?

This is the extent of accident reconstruction in this state. Individual judges may feel differently about reconstruction testimony but the State Supreme Court rejects it so the majority of courts do too.

I've pulled a couple of people over who had radar detectors, using my radar. I just tell them they wasted their money, especially if they bought a laser detector.
My agency certified me in RADAR and LIDAR, I don't know VASCAR.

VASCAR is a time distance calculation. If you know the set distance between two points and you know how long it took a vehicle to travel that distance, you can figure out their speed.
