Just a bit curious;
Since I assume a majority of Explorers are in high school, what are you plans after graduating? College? Military? Trying to directly apply? If so, what specifics are you aiming for in the next branch of your life (ex. what would you like to major in during college, what branch of military, etc.).
Just trying to liven this section up :)

I plan to get a 4 year degree after I complete high school. I'm still not sure where I want to go to college but I know I am going for a 4 year degree. I might go for a degree in Criminal Justice or law enforcement, since those would interest me the most.
After that, or possibly during, I plan to start applying to police departments in my area.

I responce to your question, I am done with high school and moved on to college. I am currently working on a two-year degree, with the academy bulit into the degree courses. So when I am done with my two years I will be certifiable.
I often thought about going into the military but then I got accepted to college and decided to do that insted, I still might end up going, I am not sure yet but if I don't end up going into the military, I will be applying starting next year.

I left explorers and joined the military. I have been in the Navy for over two years now, and still continue to volunteer with my hometown PD when I am home. Explorers made a impact on me, and I still want to be a Police Officer in the future. Do what you want to do, just remember at twenty one years old, you are still very young and if you have not left your hometown to see the world a little bit its going to work against you.

I just started my first year in college at Rutgers in NJ. My parents are adament about me getting my four year degree in accounting. After my first semester is up though I will not take anymore accounting classes even if my life depends on it. I will probably end up in community college with a degree in CJ b/c my mother refuses to pay for any four year degree other than accounting. After school I definetly plan on applying for a job in LE.

Joined military before I got out of HS, now I am in USCG Reserves and also a full time student.
Im getting a 4 year degree. I will probably get something to do with business. From what i hear a Criminal Justice degree isnt worth getting, because at least with a business degree you have something to fall back on.
But as far as explorer's after high school, I will more than likely drop my position in the explorer post and become an assistant advisor of some sort and help out when I can.

That's a cool idea. I think when I get out of high school I am going to drop out of the Explorers too, but I'm not sure if I would want to become a Civilian Advisor. I think I am just going to get my Bachelor's Degree and continue on.
In my Post you can stay in until you're 20, but the Explorers we have that are in college never come back for events or meetings but still come in for ride alongs and are still actually in the Explorers.

When you get into college, go to school full time and have a job it is difficult to donate even two hours a week (Plus events).
Ive been a cadet for 4.5 years and ever since I started college I have been missing out on events/meetings because to me, school and work is A LOT more important. My advisers are giving me **** about not showing up and I do not blame them. I am thinking of telling them I am done as a cadet because I can not guarantee them 100% of my time. As a civilian adviser I can help out when I can. It will definitely be a lot more flexible.

I know what you're saying and I understand it would be hard to manage all of those things at once. I was just poking fun that the college Explorers still find time for ride alongs but rarely have time for volunteer work. Not all of the Explorers here are like that I'm just saying.

Yeah because with college im going to be much busier. I mean its already hard enough trying to schedule explorers around school work and managing to make almost every meeting.
So I think dropping out of my position as a sgt. would be better for the post because I wont be able to make the meetings like i am now.

Anyways, for me, I went along the lines of college, and am currently a sophomore studying with a major in criminal justice and a minor in computer science, although my academic adviser is trying to push me to do a double major :o.

I'd like to go to college for a bachelor's degree in I don't know what yet and serve at the same time (in some type of reserve unit, probably Air National Guard).
But I'm not even an explorer yet. After numerous times contacting the explorer captain and head adviser I still haven't been able to get an application. The explorer captain never answers his phone (the one time he did, he was busy) and the head adviser keeps referring me to people. :(

Hmm. As an Explorer Captain, I can understand how busy it can be. but usually not so busy that you cannot give out an application. But then again I live in a small city so maybe he actually is very busy. Advisors usually are very busy so I can understand them reffering you to others.
Here we have applications in the lobby at the polcie department. Did you try just going to the police department to get one yourself?
Hope this helps.
EDIT: You may also want to try contacting other Post Officials such as Lieutenants or Sergeants if the Post has those positions.

I plan on attending the Citadel to major in Business Admin. and minor in Criminal Justice. After I graduate I plan on joining the Army and hopefully get into Special Forces. Once I serve my time I want to pursue a career in Federal Law Enforcement. but a dream of mine is to open a Private Investigating firm

Wow I'm not an explorer, but I also plan on attending the Citadel. I want to major in political science with a minor in criminal justice. I also want to go Army if I do not go Marine Corps. However I'd want to go military police. I also want to get into federal law enforcement.
Sounds like we have similar goals. If you don't mind me asking what grade are you in? Im in tenth. If you're a senior are you alreay in the application process for The Citadel and ROTC?
I graduated HS this past June, am still the Explorer Captain, and a fulltime college student and am still able to manage it some how.
I also work fulltime in a County Jail and that is most time consuming because of the training they send me through all the time.
I will be going through the academy next July, if not then, in February 2009, and hope to stick it out as an explorer till then and work on my degree in business.
It's not my time to drop my position as Captain nor as an explorer and I am going to stick it through until I get to the academy. We've had numerous explorers go through the academy and maintained positions as explorers but barely made it to events. My age limit cut off comes next November as well.

Currently a junior in college. Explorer Captain (year 3 of it, year 7 in the post). Going for the 4 year in Meteorology, few law enforcement courses, get the LE certificate (those of you familiar with MN POST know why I'm doing it this way).
I will be 20 during this nationals, and turn 21 shortly thereafter. Hope to become a civilian advisor for the post until I become sworn somewhere.

Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. The university I'm thinking about offers a part-time, student police officer program, which can be a great jumpstart into the field.

I dropped my position of Chief, because of college, I tried to balance it but, Full time job, 18 college credits, and another part-time job, I could not plan out everything we needed to do on a weekly basis, so I decided to step down.
I then resigned as an explorer all together because they put someone in a chief position that didn't even know how to HANDCUFF someone, because I was the only 'experenced' explorer we had. So, I asked to come back as a civilan advisor, that way I can help out when I can, my advisor said that would be fine, so I am currently "training" the current chief on everything that we do, and how to cuff, interview, clear buildings, etc.

After an email/calling parade that bounced from Sheriff to Sgt. to Explorer Captain to Explorer Sgt. I learned that I could just walk into the sheriff's office and ask for an application. Shocker.
I just finished filling it out. Finally! :)
