Court lowers sentence for driver going 180 kph — it was only 112 mph

DUBLIN, Ireland - When police caught driver David Clarke flying down a road at 180 kilometers per hour this month, he looked likely to lose his license.

But a country judge reduced the charge and let the 31-year-old information technology worker stay on the road after concluding the speed did not look as bad when converted into miles, or 112 mph.

I wish I could swap measurement systems when it suited me.

"No babe, I didn't lie to you. I said it was 12. You just assumed I meant inches."

And really, 112mph still sounds awfully fast. And if he had hit a tree, would have felt awfully fast.

Is it small island nations? That whole story, word for word, is the kind of thing that would have happened here in Taiwan--no fooling. If you had substituted Taiwan into this story most people living here in Taiwan would have believed it.

take care,
Brian

Really? I can go 112mph and KEEP my licence?

I'm so there.

If I did that here, I would lose it for 12 months, minimum.

I'm just glad to see that judges on the other side of the ocean can be as stupid as some of the judges here.

We have been protecting the stupid people too long. It's time to let evolution take over!;)

it was a straight stretch of road where the usual limit is 60 mph. the judge actually drove it to the court that morning.

typical of the judiciary in my country.
weve been known to give a rapist a suspended sentance

Here the judges will suspend your license AND put you in jail for a few days for anything over 100.
