The Spanish government has begun airing emotional television adverts across West Africa as part of its attempts to combat illegal immigration.

Spain's Socialist government has encouraged legal migration and foreigners now make up about a tenth of the overall population, but has ruled out any repetition of the 2005 amnesty which allowed some 600,000 illegals to stay.

600,000  - presumably they were given tickets for elsewhere in the EU.

600,000 is an extraordinary number. Like you say, you'd think they would be spread through the Europe.

But does the US have more than that? What are the estimates of their illegal population?

What's the numbers in the UK?

Yes, somewhere in the neighborhood of 14,000,000.

That 600,000 does not include illegal immigration to other countries in Europe. It refers solely to Spain. The total number of illegal immigrants in Europe exceeds 600,000.

If you think that 600,000 is an extraordinary number try including the totals for Italy, Greece, France, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom and Ireland :D

Can someone please let this guy know that it's rude to participate in thread necromancy at a forum you've only been a member of for a few hours? And does anyone see a trend to the threads he's digging up?

Of course! That number is only for Spain. It is said that it's been a way to earn more votes in the following elections, but this thing didn't like to other european countries.

Another fantastic decision of our Goverment.

Cheers from Spain.
