For running in or wearing around generally during the day?

I wear Ace brand when running because they have an opening around the knee cap area and have side stabilizers. They work really well when worn during running, and are fairly cheap ($10) and easy to find (I always see some available at Publix).

I've actually found that some Wal-Marts have braces for decent prices. That's where I got mine.

I got a fairly cheap neoprene one at Sav-On and it works well, it keeps my knee from swelling. I have to wear it when running or other stuff because my doctor said my legs are growing so fast that my kneecap is askew and at a bad angle. You can see it when I bend my leg all the way, too.

Why do you want to wear a brace? is this from a prior injury?

They have different types of brace depending on the needs, some are just a strap, some offer lateral support etc.

Here is one quality pc, open back and open on the knee cap...important!!

can't offer any experiance haven't used it my self

If you have a past knee problem or are having a issue now i would suggest go see a specialist, they are better qualified and may even have your insurance pay for it.
I have heard of custom fit brace's costing over a grand:eek:

If you don't have any problems now or in the past then i would suggest not wearing one, many knee problems are imbalanced leg muscle's or cartilege wear, and just putting one on may mask a problem or make it worse.

If you have knee pain either rest untill it's better or get it checked out

Well, I'm wearing it due to knee pain. But unfortunately I don't have health insurance that covers doctors visits, only hospital stays. So on that end I'm SOL until I finish the academy and find a FT job.

When I raced I wore a set of EVS braces. They'd suck for running though, they were more about keeping your legs from bending sideways and backwards. That and they cost $350 a leg. Compression wrap.

I may be preaching to the choir, but be very cautious with using a knee-brace. I started to use one before I saw a doctor, only to find out it was not recommended with my case.

In some cases a knee brace, though it provides momentary comfort can cause the muscles to atrophy that it is helping to support.

Basically causing an artificial dependence on the brace. So if you don't have a doctor's recommendation to wear one, then I would see a doctor first before using it.
