Hey all,

My duty issue Sig 226 holster is a single retention thumb-snap leather, basket weaved holster. While it is comfortable and well-worn in, it provides little protection from gun grabs.

I was looking at the wide world of holsters, each one claiming a higher technological advance than their competitors.

I am swamped with ideas.

Alas, I came to the conclusion that I want a better holster, but one with an attached single mag holder. Ive seen them for off duty/CCW use. Used mainly to limit the need of carrying a double mag holder and weighing yourself down.

Well, I would like to know if one exists for the model SIG 226 and weather or not it is available in basket weave leather.

This way I can carry 3 extra mags, have a better holster and look good doing it. I only add the looking good part, because, well lets face it, this is me we're talking about.

Help a brotha out?

Seen plenty concealment holsters, but never a duty holster like that.

Don't bother with a holster that has a mag carrier on the front! Those are usually reserved for the poorly trained, thinking it is cool. Your mags should be much more easily accessible with your off hand and with them on the holster, they will be difficult to reach (at best).

Just thinking, they DO make single mag pouches. Why not just get an extra single mag pouch if you want to carry three?

interesting point. both of you guys.

I didnt really give it much thought switchback, but thats a good point. However, it obviously wouldnt be my first choice mag for reloads. I do like "studs" option of the extra single mag, its just that my left side is running outta room. Im a skinny guy haha. Ill have to do some consolidating and see what I can find.

thanks fellas. I think Ill go with the single mag pouch and just add it on.

...or maybe a bandolier...hmmm :D

I carry a 1911 and I have a 31" waist, so I know all about running out of real estate on the belt. I carry a triple mag carrier.

I've looked at the double stack carriers, but I was afraid that they would take a lot of work to really be fast with the reloads. Essentially, they are 2 double mag carriers stacked on each other, with the front pair staggered a little lower than the pair in back. I think there wold be a learnign curve, but they are also an option for duty.

Blackhawk makes a nylon triple mag holder. Try one like that.

We use the SigSauer P 6 for duty weapon here in Germany but now, after more than 25 years our state changed to the Walther P 99.

For the SigSauer they gave us a holster none like. It is specially made for the police in my state (no basket wave, I'm the only one who has a basket wave holster in my dept of 4000 cops - and it was a gift from a cop from the USA, it was made by Tex Shoemaker Company and I think I have it for more than 17 years now). I will have a look on the holster when I'm in my afternoon shift today, maybe there is a special sign on it.

With the reserve mag on the holster - go away from that. We had a holster for the old P 1 with the mag pouch on it in the early 80's and the results on the range - well, forget this holsters, they are sh*t. As stated above, it is pretty much better to grap the reserve mag with you free hand.
