Do you know how do we become a police detective in Toronto police services ?
I mean, is there any exam for P.O ? or is the promotion based on merit ?

thank you

if you are talking about toronto in canada, you will have to get your canadian citizenship, then you need to be clear of any criminal offense, good reputtion and behavior, also you will need to do some patrol during couple years... then it's not written but if you are not living in toronto they will not hire you, they priorise their citizens... and to be Po in ontario you have to do the ats test and then you apply to the pd, if they hire you they will send you to the opc.

If it's like anywhere else you have to put in for it (apply), interview, and get promoted/transferred. Technically you could say it's by merit but it's not an automatic move.
