My dept is looking at going to load bearing vests intend of equipment belts. Does anybody wear one and able to tell me if they are any good?

It's really going to depend on what kind of set-up they go for. We wear/wore them for SRT and SOG (our regional & national tac teams, respectively). What is good for one guy may not be good for the other, in terms of where things are located on the vest, etc.
It's nice getting the weight off your belt and it is easier to distribute things.
Many places are going away from load bearing vests and opting for molle vest carrier systems. With these, each individual can arrange things in a way that makes sense to them. You just get molle carriers/pouches and you are good to go.

I am a molle system convert. I remember complaining about our old LBV that were all exactly the same because I could never figure out what the person who designed them was thinking. With our newer molle system that they started issuing to us about three years ago, you can put stuff where you want it, and move it when it doesn't work.
Even, though, I suggest not trying to put that stuff on, or take it off, unless you are pretty de-stressed to start with, because sometimes it fights you like it has a brain.
