I start out the shift getting into a pursuit. 120+ MPH. Terminated when the idiot started weaving through heavy traffic. We picked him up later.

Later some idiot decided to throw a beer bottle out the window at some cops on a traffic stop. We get him stopped and he's cuffed standing on the sidewalk. He curses out the LT and starts running.

There is nothing more comical than seeing someone try to run with their hands handcuffed behind their back. The three of us ran him down an applied the reasonable and necessary physical force, including OC, to get him back into custody.

There's nothing that gets the blood pumping like getting into chases.

Foot pursuits are the reason I'd like to see Taser come out with an 870-sized model, using stronger air cartriges with 100 foot leads.

Did you charge him with theft? A old school Deputy here taught me that several years ago and I laughed at him until the judge found the guy guilty. The judge agreed that the Deputy owned the handcuffs and when the subject escaped he stole the cuffs.

Here in Florida, we have Robbery by Sudden Snatching. A couple of nights ago an officer was getting into a physical with a suspect outside of a large bar. The officer was using his mag-light as a baton on him. The suspect grabbed the flashlight out of the officer's hand while he was using it as a baton. Officer charged him with robbery by sudden snatching, but using force to take the flashlight from the officer, and attempt to flee after taking it.

Here in Florida, we have Sudden Snatching.

Reminds me of that episode of Third Watch where Bosco was wondering how to handcuff the one-armed man. Finally, he handcuffed his arm to his leg. As Bosco is turned away talking, the guy limps off.

Yokas: "We've got a foot pursuit, and uh, he claims to be armed."
Carlos: "He's only half right."
Bosco: "Oh, da... Stumpy! Wait for me!"
Yokas: "Fightin' crime."

When my 4x4 gets stuck in the mud I use a pulley, rops, winch and SNATCH block. :cool:

It wasn't any trouble at all, the guy kicked out the glass and escaped while the Deputy was getting the wife's information for his report. I wasn't saying that his guy escaped. Sorry for the confusion.

Valor- Glad you're ok out of all of that. Those can be exciting days. No adrenaline rush like that. I don't know but I have a feeling 2007 is gonna' be big! My partner and I have gotten 7 guns already this year (2007). One more on our next work day and sgt is buying us dinner. Had a foot chase with some idiot and got covered head to toe in mud. You should see this guy's mug! He was worse than I was. He had mud and grass hanging off his face and hair! LOL! Good news- got 2 guns 38 special and a 45. Plus a little crack and a scale. Those guys think we don't know anything but I'll tell you those Jeeps they keep riding around in with their hidden compartments will get them evertime. I was born at night, but not last night. I threw all my stuff in the washer, boots and gun belt in the garage to be dealt with later. Time to crack a beer and decompress.
I'm with the idea of theft for the handcuffs.

Hey, the thing with the cuffs and the theft sounds good. Will try this next time here. Assume what the judge will say:D

I also had two foot pursuits last friday. First an gipsy after shop theft (get her, because she had the wrong shoes), second an group of teens destroying an parked car, well only get one girl after an 700 m run, but at the station the lovely teen told me the other guys names. After I told her what I let her mother known at the phone:D
